Earlier, he gained a devoted fanbase as the demon Cole Turner on ‘Charmed,’ where his chemistry with Alyssa Milano’s character made him a cult figure in genre television.

Julian Dana William McMahon was born July 27th, 1967, in Sydney, Australia. He was the son of Sir William McMahon, Australia’s 20th Prime Minister, and Lady Sonia McMahon, a fashion icon and philanthropist.

Raised in the public eye, McMahon initially pursued a career in law before modeling took him abroad. He worked in London and Milan before turning to acting, finding his first screen success in the Australian soap ‘Home and Away’.

His breakout in the US came in the late ’90s with the NBC daytime drama ‘Another World’, which led to higher-profile roles in primetime.

McMahon’s most iconic role came in 2003 with ‘Nip/Tuck’, which ran for six seasons and helped redefine cable television drama. His portrayal of Christian Troy captured both the seductiveness and spiritual emptiness of superficial perfection.

In parallel, McMahon continued to build his resume with genre roles, most notably on ‘Charmed.’

In later years, McMahon led the procedural ‘FBI: Most Wanted’ from 2020 to 2022, showcasing his ability to anchor mainstream television with subtle charisma and steeliness.

On the big screen, he stepped into the role of Victor Von Doom — arch-nemesis to the Fantastic Four—in two mid-2000s 20th Century Fox/Marvel films. Though the movies had mixed critical reception, McMahon’s performance added gravitas to the early wave of superhero cinema.

Other movie work included 2007’s ‘Premonition’, action comedy ‘RED’, 2013’s conspiracy thriller ‘Paranoia’ and most recently, Nic Cage thriller ‘The Surfer.’ His final performance, in comedy drama ‘The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat,’ will be in theaters next month.

While he often portrayed men wrestling with darkness, McMahon was widely regarded as generous, affable, and committed to his craft.

He kept a relatively private personal life but was known to be close with his family and loyal to longtime collaborators.

Outside acting, he had a passion for surfing, philosophy, and the natural world — interests that reflected a deeper, quieter side to the performer.

Shannen Maria Doherty was born on April 12th, 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee. Her family moved to Los Angeles so she could pursue an acting career from a young age. A role on the series ‘Father Murphy’ brought her to the attention of Michael Landon, and she was cast on ‘Little House on the Prairie’ at the age of 11.

She recalled her time on the show fondly on her Let’s Be Clear podcast:

”It was really the experience on ‘Little House’ that spurred that passion on for being an actor, and it was having a mentor like Michael Landon. And I don’t care what anybody else’s experience was like. I know the truth about that man, and he was just unbelievable. So, so, so talented, so kind, so considerate. It really helped shape me.”

Following ‘Little House’, she had a recurring role on ‘Our House’ alongside Wilford Brimley and a variety of other roles, though two major performances stand out.

If there is one role for which Doherty will be truly remembered, it is that of fresh-faced brunette Brenda Walsh on Fox’s ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’. Along with her twin brother Brandon, played by Jason Priestly, the Walshes were the classic fish-out-of-water family that moved from Minnesota to Beverly Hills and tried to fit in with the L.A. rich kids.

The show became a massive hit, spurred by some controversies over subjects it tackled, though Doherty developed a reputation for being difficult on set and friction with her co-stars. She left the show in 1994, though did return for several episodes of reboot ‘90210’ and meta take ‘BH90210’.

Her other big part was as witch Prue Halliwell on ‘Charmed’, the oldest of three magical sisters who work together to battle evil. She directed several episodes and then left the show at the end of the third season, amid more reports of tension with her fellow stars.

Her TV work also included ‘North Shore’, ‘Riverdale’ and shows she produced, including ‘Breaking Up With Shannen Doherty’, where she helped people get out of bad relationships.

  • The CW Renews ‘Riverdale,’ ‘Legacies,’ and 8 More Series

The CW Renews ‘Riverdale,’ ‘Legacies,’ and 8 More Series

    Riverdale cast
    The CW

The CW has opted not to keep fans of 10 of its shows in suspense.

The network has announced that it handed out early renewals to several popular series. There are two freshman shows among the group — “Charmed” and “Legacies” — but the rest have been around multiple seasons already. The other shows include “Riverdale,” “Dynasty,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “Arrow,” “Black Lightning,” and “Supernatural.”

The list accounts for most of The CW’s lineup. The network is apparently waiting to see about “Roswell, New Mexico,” “All American,” and “The 100.” Of the three, “Roswell, New Mexico” is the newest, having premiered less than a month ago. Meanwhile, “The 100” Season 6 doesn’t premiere till April, and “All American” is not quite done with its first season.

There are, however, a few CW series on their way out. “Jane the Virgin,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” and “iZombie” were renewed for their final seasons in May. “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” concludes in early February, while “Jane the Virgin” and “iZombie” premiere in March and May, respectively.

Interestingly, of the shows that have been renewed, all but one are based on existing properties. “The Flash,” “Black Lightning,” “Arrow,” “Supergirl,” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” are based on DC Comics characters; “Riverdale” is also based on a comic book series; “Charmed” and “Dynasty” are reboots; and “Legacies” is a spinoff. That leaves “Supernatural,” which is going into its 15th season, as something of an outlier.

The 2019-20 TV season is likely to bring more shows inspired by other works. The CW recently picked up four pilots, including a “Jane the Virgin” spinoff, a “Riverdale” spinoff, a Nancy Drew TV adaptation, and a series based on the film “The Lost Boys.”

Premiere dates for the 2019-20 TV season have not yet been announced.

  • ‘Charmed’ Set for Full Season After CW Orders More Episodes

‘Charmed’ Set for Full Season After CW Orders More Episodes

    The CW's Charmed sisters
    The CW

The Charmed Ones still have the magic: There’s more of The CW’s “Charmed” reboot on the way.

Four episodes in to the original 13-episode order, the network decided to give the show a full season. “Charmed” is now set for 22 episodes, as Variety reports, meaning nine episodes have been added. That means more witchy adventures.

The series stars Madeleine Mantock (Macy), Melonie Diaz (Mel), and Sarah Jeffrey (Maggie) as three sisters with powers. Like in the original series, they work together and use the “Power of Three” to vanquish demons. So far, the show has drawn an average of 2.7 million viewers per episode in the Live+7 period, per Variety, and it’s doing particularly well among adults 18-49.

Although there initially was backlash to the idea of a “Charmed” reboot, the numbers are apparently good enough to justify added episodes. It’s one of three new fall series that will now get a full season; “All American” and “Legacies” also got back nine orders.

    “Charmed” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

  • The CW Fall 2018 Schedule Puts ‘Charmed’ Reboot & ‘Supergirl’ on Sundays

“Supergirl” is moving from Mondays to Sundays as the lead-in for the new “Charmed” reboot.

That’s the word from The CW, which just revealed its Fall 2018-2019 schedule.

“Arrow” is moving to Mondays, with new series “Legacies” — set in the same world as “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” — airing Thursdays.

Also, The CW confirmed that these will be the final seasons for “Jane the Virgin,” “iZombie,” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” It’s always sad to say goodbye, but better to know going into a season than having showrunners write cliffhanger endings in the hope of a pickup that never comes.

Holding for midseason are the new “Roswell” reboot and new series “In the Dark.”

Here’s the Fall lineup (via EW), plus details on the new “Charmed”:

    Here’s more on “Charmed”:

    CHARMED:

“Stronger together.” That’s what Marisol tells her daughters, firebrand social justice warrior Melanie “Mel” Vera, and her sister, fun-loving Maggie, about their family. Mel is a graduate student in the women’s studies department her mother heads at Hilltowne University; Maggie is a freshman considering rushing a sorority (to Mel’s amused dismay) and going “on” again with her on-again off-again boyfriend Brian.

But then, a shocking tragedy shatters their world and threatens their sibling bond: Marisol dies in a horrifying accident. Or was it? Three months later, we find Mel unable to accept the official explanation of their mother’s death, while Maggie accuses her of being morbidly obsessed. And then, another huge shock shows up at their front door: they have an older sister, brilliant geneticist Macy, whom their mother kept a secret all these years!

Macy is new in town and doesn’t know a soul (except for Galvin, the cute fellow scientist who’s been showing her around). Macy is eager to connect with Mel and Maggie, but Mel can’t handle another shock, and shuts her out.

With the emotions of all three sisters running high, each of the girls suddenly exhibit impossible new abilities: Mel can freeze time, Maggie starts hearing others’ thoughts, and Macy has telekinetic powers. But don’t worry, there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation…or so says Harry Greenwood (who as far as they know is the officious new chair of the women’s studies department), when he gathers the three sisters together to reveal they’re actually powerful witches, as was their mother. And he’s not really a professor, he’s their “Whitelighter,” a witch’s advisor and guide!

Not only that, but Mel was right: their mother’s death was no accident – she was murdered by unknown dark forces. It’s a lot to take in, but ultimately the sisters accept their new destiny as The Charmed Ones…and their new duty to protect humankind from the demons that walk among us…one of whom killed their mother. With the Power of Three, they are stronger together… even if they have no idea what they’re really up against.

Starring Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffery, Madeleine Mantock, Rupert Evans, Ser’Darius Blaine, Charlie Gillespie, and Ellen Tamaki . Based on the original series, CHARMED is from CBS Television Studios in association with Propagate Content, with executive producers Jessica O’Toole (“Jane The Virgin”), Amy Rardin (“Jane The Virgin”), Jennie Snyder Urman (“Jane The Virgin”), Ben Silverman (“The Office”), Brad Silberling (“Jane The Virgin”) and Carter Covington (“Faking It”).

  • ‘Charmed’ Fans Are Serious About Stopping The CW’s Reboot

The CW got a rude awakening after announcing its “Charmed” reboot: The original series’ fans were not only outraged by the idea, they are now actively trying to stop the series from being made.

The outcry began as soon as news of the reboot broke in late January, and it even included criticism from “Charmed” vets Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty. The two actresses called out the network after it touted the project as a “feminist” remake, thereby discounting the impact of the original show. Fans wholeheartedly agreed with their take, and the hashtag #STOPCharmedReboot even emerged. The movement is still going strong, with people airing their grievances every day.

Fan fury could not be more obvious. One die-hard even started a Change.org petition that asserts the reboot “completely destroys everything Charmed ever was” and calls for fans to speak out against it. The petition has reached nearly 2,000 signatures (at the time of publishing).

While we’re not sure if fans’ efforts will have any impact on The CW’s plans, there is no denying their loyalty. They’re taking on this reboot like the Halliwell sisters battling a demon.

  • Shannen Doherty Is Curious About ‘Charmed’ Reboot Despite Its ‘Terrible’ Description

The “Charmed” reboot tripped out of the gate with its pilot announcement last week, but original star Shannen Doherty is giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Like most of the supernatural series’ die-hard fans as well as her former co-star Holly Marie Combs, Doherty took issue with the fact that the network described the prospective series as “fierce, funny, feminist” — as if they hadn’t managed to do just that the first time around. She discussed the reboot with fans on Twitter, admitting that she felt The CW’s wording was “terrible and a bit offensive.” However, she also shared that she is “curious about their plans for it” and wrote a series of tweets about what the reboot means to her.

“Everything is a remake or a reboot. Every show, every movie in some way. Charmed was a wonderful empowering show for women,” she said of the series she starred in for three seasons. “I’m proud I started a show that has stood the test of time with such loyal fans. It’s a testament to the original that a new one is even being considered. And no, it won’t be the same but nothing is.”

Doherty went on to have a thoughtful discussion with fans, asking what they’d think if it was “not a reboot and just was a show about sisters and family dynamics with super natural powers.” As the conversation went on, she discussed The CW’s “terrible and a bit offensive wording” but also shared an optimistic view of how a new generation could benefit from more “Charmed.”

“Im [sic] intrigued by the idea that a new generation might be comforted, inspired like all you were,” she wrote. “Charmed helped us all in some way.”

Doherty has a good attitude about this whole situation. The pilot announcement may have missed the mark, but hopefully the reboot will be able to bring back the original’s magic.

  • Holly Marie Combs Isn’t Happy About the ‘Charmed’ Reboot

Charmed Original “Charmed” star Holly Marie Combs took to Twitter last night to express her disapproval of the upcoming series reboot.

Reacting to the news that the new version will have a “feminist” storyline, Combs (who played Piper for all 8 seasons of the WB series) snarked, “Guess we forgot to do that the first go around. Hmph.”

Although she said that die-hard fans “won’t be fooled” by the new version, she did add “we wish them well.”

On Thursday, The CW announced that that the reboot will no longer be a prequel set in the ’70s. They described it as a “fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series.”

Although the reboot is now set in the present day, don’t hold your breath for any of the original stars — Combs, Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano, or Rose McGowan — to guest star. Or for old school fans to tune in.
