While generational crime drama ‘Peaky Blinders’ wrapped up its TV run in 2022 and movie ‘The Immortal Man’ effectively closed out one part of the story, creator Steven Knight still has more stories to tell.

And now, via Netflix, we have the first look at one of the main cast members, Jamie Bell, who takes over the role of Duke Shelby (as played by Barry Keoghan in the last couple of seasons and the movie).

In this new era of the Peaky Blinders, a decade after World War Two, the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy.

At its blood-soaked heart is Duke Shelby (Bell): older, wiser, more ambitious, and most certainly more dangerous.

Here’s Knight talking about the new iteration of his creation:

“I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s. We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast. There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and ‘Peaky’ is on the road again.”

  • New ‘Stranger Things 4’ Trailer Promises War is Coming

Just when the residents of Hawkins, Indiana (population: dwindling fast) thought that they’d finally put supernatural threats behind them following the traumatic events of the Battle of Starcourt, the new trailer for ‘Stranger Things’ fourth season suggests that their troubles are far from over. War is coming… and no-one is safe.

And that includes those such as Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) and his family, who moved away to Southern California at the end of the last season. While Eleven is having trouble fitting into a new school, she’s soon informed by Sam Owens (Paul Reiser) that her particular set of mysterious skills are needed back in Hawkins.

There’s just one small problem with that plan: she doesn’t have them anymore.

Yet back in Hawkins, things continue to be, well, strange. Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) are facing their own challenges, moving on up to Hawkins high school and all the potential bullying, hormonal issues and fashion challenges that presents.

But possibly having an even harder time is Sadie Sink’s Max Mayfield, who is still grieving the death of brother Billy (Dacre Montgomery), who sacrificed himself in the big battle. Not only is Max struggling with loss, but she also appears to have develop some interesting new abilities of her own, if the shot of her floating above the others is anything to go by.

Whether it’s her or someone else achieving that, they’ll need the help, as something even more terrifying is on the way and a giant conflict is bubbling away, with some of it tied to the creepy new location of the Creel House.

Then there’s poor old Jim Hopper (David Harbour), locked away in a prison in Kamchatka, Russia, where life seems to be just as rough – what we must wonder now is how he gets free? We’ll get that answer, plus some flashbacks to fill in other story gaps in a season that promises to wrap the plot up.

For those who might not have seen the announcement a couple of months ago, the new season is so epic and huge that the creators (and Netflix) have opted to split it in two.

“With nine scripts, over eight-hundred pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, ‘Stranger Things 4’ was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one,” wrote the Duffer brothers. “Everyone involved is incredibly proud of the results, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Given the unprecedented length, and to get it to you as soon as possible, Season 4 will be released in two volumes.”

Expect the first batch of episodes on May 27th, with the second haul following on July 1st. Bad news for those who were looking forward to their latest ‘Things’ binge, but good news in that the season will be able to contain more of the sprawling story.

Stranger Things” star Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers) is ready to show his range. He’s taking on the role of Joseph Merrick, aka “The Elephant Man,” in a two-part BBC drama.

According to Variety, the two 90-minute episodes will air on BBC One in 2019. The episodes would presumably find their way across the pond to the U.S. via PBS or maybe a streamer.

Joseph Merrick lived only 27 years, from 1862 to 1890; his serious facial and body deformities were often exhibited at “freak shows” before he came to live at London Hospital.

This new adaptation of “The Elephant Man” will film in Wales, following Merrick’s life from his working-class beginnings, through the workhouses, music halls, and freak shows, to his time at the London Hospital and his friendship with Dr. Frederick Treves.

BBC Drama boss Piers Wenger said the adaptation would “shed new light on this story, bringing greater depth and humanity to it than ever before.”

Charlie Heaton shared a statement on his casting:

“I’m extremely excited and honored to be given the opportunity to take on the portrayal of Joseph Merrick in the BBC’s adaption of ‘The Elephant Man.’ This is such a special role and a challenge for any actor. Joseph has such an incredible story, and I can’t wait to go on this journey and bring him to life.”

Joseph Merrick was recently played on London’s West End stage by Bradley Cooper. The 1980 film “The Elephant Man,” directed by David Lynch, earned eight Oscar nominations, including Best Actor for John Hurt.

Charlie Heaton will also be seen in “The New Mutants,” which is currently scheduled for release in theaters August 2, 2019. He’ll also return as Jonathan Byers in “Stranger Things” Season 3, which is set to stream on Netflix in summer 2019.

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Star Charlie Heaton Addresses Cocaine Possession Reports

Don’t worry, “Stranger Things” Season 3. The British actor told Flaunt magazine “it’s all sorted now,” but his experience being detained at LAX is still apparently a sore point.

Heaton (Jonathan Byers) was denied entry into the U.S. in October when authorities found traces of cocaine in his possession. He was put back on a plane to London and missed the big “Stranger Things” Season 2 premiere in Los Angeles.

At the time, Heaton issued a statement, calling it an immigration issue:

“My planned travel to the U.S. last week was affected by an issue at U.S. immigration, and I am working to rectify it as soon as possible,” he said in his statement. “I do want to clarify that I was not arrested or charged with a crime, and cooperated fully with the U.S. officials at LAX. I’m sorry to all the fans and my ‘Stranger Things’ family for missing the premiere. We are all so proud of this season and I would never want this story to negatively impact the show.”

Fast-forward to March 2018. Heaton didn’t address the facts of the situation with Flaunt, but he did answer the magazine’s question on how it felt to deal with the ensuing media frenzy after the news broke.

Here’s that part of the interview:

“It was f*cking awful. It was just awful,” he repeats, his head lowered. Can he return to the US for filming the new season? “Yeah, it’s all sorted now,” he says. “We go back in April so I plan to go back to America next month, and yes, I can go back.” It’s clear the incident is a painful memory.

“It was hard. Everything happened so fast, and I hadn’t come to terms with the fact that I was famous. When something steps in from the work you are doing and breaks into your personal life…you feel kind of vulnerable. All of a sudden it becomes a very big story and it gets really blown out of proportion.” After the news broke, the media arrived on his doorstep as well as at his parent’s home in Yorkshire, something he describes as very “hard” and “upsetting” for them to deal with. “At the end of the day I just wanted to go back. I want to work and continue to work—that’s all I’ve ever done.”

Focusing his attention now firmly on the next season, I ask him what we can expect to see. “I don’t know, I’ve not seen the script!” he explains, laughing and shrugging. “I know they’re writing it at the moment and we’ll find out soon—we’ll see. I’m interested in the love triangle—Jonathan and Nancy are now together. I’m interested to see where it goes.”

Heaton is said to be dating Nancy Wheeler actress Natalia Dyer in real life. Read his full interview for a lot more on how his life has changed — mostly for the better — since “Stranger Things” took off.

“Stranger Things” Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix. Season 3 starts taping this spring but there’s no set premiere date at this point.

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Star Denied Entry Into U.S. Over Cocaine Possession: Reports

Esquire Townhouse With Dior - ArrivalsThis is why “Stranger Things” Season 2 premiere in L.A.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 23-year-old British actor was denied entry into the U.S. when he tried to fly into L.A. last Saturday. Law enforcement officials told THR they found traces of cocaine on Heaton, and Heaton admitted the consumption of drugs to them. A source told the Daily Mail, “He was not arrested. He was held at the airport for a while and then put back on a plane to London that night.”

So Heaton, who plays Jonathan Byers on “Stranger Things,” missed Thursday’s L.A. premiere of Season 2. He had to stay in the U.K. while the rest of the cast (including rumored girlfriend Natalia Dyer) walked the red carpet.

Jaime Ruiz, branch chief of strategic media engagement for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, wasn’t specific about Heaton’s case, but told THR there are more than 60 specific grounds of inadmissibility to the U.S.

“Foreign nationals may be inadmissible due to the commission of a crime involving drug possession. CBP officers treat all international travelers with integrity, respect and professionalism while keeping the highest standards of security.”

Customs officials don’t play around. If you have “trace amounts” of anything illegal anywhere in your possession, don’t be shocked if the door closes behind you. It’s not clear what this means for Heaton’s future, in terms of access back into the U.S. for future events or continued filming for “Stranger Things,” which shoots in the Atlanta, Georgia, area.

  • 7 Things You Need to Know Before Watching ‘Stranger Things’ Season 2

“Stranger Things” easily ranks among the most popular of Netflix’s many original series, and fans have been waiting more than a year for new episodes to finally hit the streaming service.

Thankfully, Season 2 is finally dropping on Friday, October 27. Here’s everything you need to know to get ready for the show’s return.

    1. It’s Just in Time for HalloweenNot only is the series conveniently returning in time for Halloween, Season 2 will feature a lot of Halloween trappings itself.

Season 2 will pick up in October 1984, roughly a year after the return of Will (Noah Schnapp). Early footage showed the series’ young cast dressed as Ghostbusters, so expect plenty of references to period-appropriate pop culture as everyone gets into the holiday spirit.

    2. Everyone’s Back (Except Barb)All of the major surviving characters from the first season are back, including Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as police chief Jim Hopper, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, and Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers.

Unfortunately, that leaves one notable hole in the lineup. Despite becoming a fan-favorite in Season 1, it doesn’t sound like Shannon Purser’s Barb will be cheating death. That’s already led fans to create the #JusticeforBarb hashtag.

But then again, you never know what weird twists might unfold on this series.

    3. There Are Two New CharactersBoth of new additions are played by actors with serious ’80s movie pedigrees. First is Sean Astin‘s Bob Newby, a former classmate of Joyce and Hopper, who now runs the local RadioShack. Do we sense a love triangle forming?

Second is Paul Reiser as Ownes, a Department of Energy representative who is tasked with covering up the strange events that lead us to paying the Upside Down a visit.

    4. There’s a Heavy James Cameron Influence“Stranger Things” proudly wears its influences on its sleeve, with the show owing a huge debt to “E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial” and the works of Stephen King. However, co-creator Matt Duffer said that Season 2 will be pulling from a different source.

Duffer revealed to Entertainment Weekly that this season will draw inspiration from James Cameron‘s films, both in terms of their general appeal and Cameron’s willingness to differentiate his sequels from the originals.

    5. Say ‘Hello’ to Hopper’s DaughterWhile much of the focus in Season 1 centered around the search for Will, the series also explored Hopper’s lingering trauma as a father grieving for his dead daughter. Expect that to become an even bigger focus in this new season.

“Hopper’s daughter will be the primary focus of Season 2, but not in the way that you think it will be,” Harbour told TV Guide. “Hopper’s understanding of that relationship — and Hopper’s understanding of being a father — and of being a man grows deeper and deeper in Season 2, and we get a lot of time to explore what that is, but it won’t be in the literal way that you think it is.”

    6. The Upside Down Is Back (Duh)Don’t think that just because Will is back, he and his friends are done with the twisted realm that is the Upside Down.

The gang will continue to explore the mysteries of that realm and face a new foe that will “make that Demogorgon look quaint.” Co-creator Ross Duffer also teased that the season will open on a very disturbing note, so get ready for a dark road ahead.

    7. There Are More Seasons PlannedUnsurprisingly, Netflix plans to continue making this show a major part of its TV arsenal. Expect plenty more of the series after Season 2 wraps. At first, the Duffer brothers indicated that they had a four-season road map for the series, but now it sounds as though they may be planning a fifth season, too.

That’s a good thing, because fans won’t be getting much closure for the next round of episodes. The show will end on another big cliffhanger this year. Hopefully, the wait for Season 3 won’t be quite as long.

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 ‘Scope Feels Bigger’ With Epic Episode 4

Here’s some exciting “Stranger Things” Season 2 news to keep your Christmas lights blinking until the 2017 premiere.

The first four episodes of Season 2 are “going to be a ride,” Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers) promised, and you should really keep an eye out for Episode 4. It’ll go to 11!

Heaton teased some good stuff ahead on the Netflix series, while promoting his new movie “Shut In” to Entertainment Tonight. “Stranger Things” Season 2 picks up a year after Season 1, but it won’t feel like we’re missing much. “I don’t think you’re gonna notice,” Heaton told ET. “Even though it’s a year, you’re falling straight back into where we left off, in a sense.” They just had to “let things settle” for the story, and also acknowledge as a series that the young actors had aged a year.

Asked for anything that excited him about the new season, Heaton — wary of spoilers — said, “We follow these characters a year later, and you’re straight back in the world of Hawkins, [Indiana], which we know and love so well. But maybe the scope feels bigger this year? I think we’re maybe expecting it be slightly darker, I’ve heard. Yeah, Episode 1-4 is going to be a ride.” He paused, and decided on his answer. “OK, Episode 4 is a big episode.”

Watch his interview:Season 2 is adding a couple of new characters — and those actors were included in the recent first table read photo. The Duffer brothers said Season 2 would be “darker” with “a bigger mythology behind what happened.” We’ll spend more time exploring the “inter-dimensional” rift of the Upside Down, among other things. And apparently we WILL see justice for Barb … even if she might not be alive for it.
