You can’t always expect to be liked by everyone, even when you’re playing a fictional character.

Jennifer Garner stars in the upcoming HBO series “Camping,” and while discussing the show with USA Today, she indicated that she doesn’t expect everyone to love her character, Kathryn. That’s probably a good thing. As the publication noted, critics have described her character with a variety of unflattering adjectives, including “insufferable.”

While the actress knows Kathryn won’t be the most lovable character on TV, she said that viewers will see why she is the way she is. Part of it has to do with the fact that she suffers from chronic pain.

“You’ll understand her, even if you don’t love her,” Garner said.

The series centers not just on Kathryn but her husband, Walt (David Tennant), and a group of their friends as they head out into the wilderness to celebrate Walt’s birthday. Apparently, the well-planned trip will go awry, and it will strain various relationships.

In starring in “Camping,” Garner took on her first major TV role since her five seasons of “Alias.” The show last aired in 2006, so it’s been quite a while. HBO doesn’t seem to have a problem attracting film stars for its series, though; actors with shows on the network include Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Dwayne Johnson, and many more.

“Camping” premieres Sunday, Oct. 14 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.

  • Jennifer Garner Shares Set Photo as HBO’s ‘Camping’ Begins Production

The stars of HBO’s upcoming comedy “Camping” are ready to brave the elements.

With production beginning on the series, the cast and crew took to the great outdoors this week. Jennifer Garner posted a set photo on Thursday showing several of the show’s actors gathered in a woodsy area. The group includes cast members David Tennant, Juliette Lewis, Janicza Bravo, Ione Sky, Brett Gelman, Bridget Everett, and Arturo Del Puerto, as well as others.

“Let us commence,” Garner wrote. “The cast of #CampingHBO before we’re sunburned and covered in ticks.”

Garner also tagged Jenni Konner and Lena Dunham in the photo, as the two are the shows co-writers. They are basing their work on the British comedy series of the same name, which had a six-episode run in 2016. Like its predecessor, HBO’s “Camping” will center on a group of friends who take a trip to celebrate a birthday but end up dealing with various personal issues and challenges from Mother Nature.

In the upcoming series, Garner plays Kathryn, the wife of birthday celebrant Walt (Tennant). She is described as “obsessively organized and aggressively controlling,” according to Deadline. Meanwhile, her more mild-mannered sister and self-righteous best friend will be among the couple’s camping companions, making it an interesting trip.

So far, “Camping” doesn’t have a premiere date, but we’re glad to see it moving forward.

  • David Tennant Joins Jennifer Garner in Lena Dunham Series ‘Camping’

David TennantDavid Tennant has just signed on to play the “obedient” husband to Jennifer Garner‘s “controlling” wife in the upcoming Lena Dunham HBO series “Camping.”

HBO announced the casting of the former “Doctor Who” star today. Tennant will play Walt, a loving father who’s nursing a “subtle but growing discontent,” according to Variety.

Garner was previously cast as Kathryn in the eight-episode series, who is, as her character description goes, “far less cheerful than her Lululemons imply.”

Instead of following 20-something New Yorkers, the half-hour comedy will focus on uptight 40-something Angelenos. Everything goes awry — including woman on woman” crime — when a group of friends go on a camping holiday to celebrate Walt’s 45th birthday.

The HBO series is a remake of the 2016 British comedy of the same name, which was created by actress-director Julia Davis.

Tennant also stars in the upcoming fantasy series “Good Omens.”

  • New HBO Series From Lena Dunham to Star Jennifer Garner

With “Girls” behind us, the acclaimed HBO series’ creators, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, have been working on their next project for the premium network, and we now know that it will star Jennifer Garner.

After mostly making movies following her starring role in the action TV series “Alias,” Garner is ready to return to the small screen. She’ll play the lead role in the upcoming HBO show “Camping,” Variety reports. Set for eight episode, the plot is based on the U.K. series of the same name and centers on a birthday weekend gone seriously awry. Garner will portray Kathryn, a control freak.

“We love Jennifer’s restraint and comedic timing, and we can’t wait for the warmth and intelligence she’ll bring to our central character, Kathryn,” Dunham and Konner said of Garner. “It’s truly a dream to have her first on our call sheet. Now we just have to write her some stunts.”

The series premiere date has not yet been announced, but we’re definitely curious to see how Dunham and Konner follow up “Girls.” Garner’s casting makes the project all the more intriguing.
