‘Broad City’ Star Ilana Glazer Bringing Stand-Up Special to Amazon

    Comedy Central

Celebrated Comedy Central series “Broad City” may have ended earlier this year, but star Ilana Glazer is staying in the spotlight: The comedian is about to film her first stand-up special, which is slated to air on Amazon Prime.

Glazer announced the triumphant news herself in an Instagram post on Tuesday, telling fans she was “vibrating with excitement” about the opportunity.

The comedian is about to wrap her eight-city “The Planet Is Burning” stand-up tour, and the last stop — scheduled for Wednesday night in Houston, Texas at the White Oak Music Hall — will be recorded for the special (which will also be called “The Planet Is Burning”). Glazer’s announcement included a video clip highlighting some of what fans can expect from the one-hour production, and there’s plenty of the star’s signature zany energy on display.

While we’re a little bummed that there doesn’t appear to be any cameo from Glazer’s “Broad City” co-creator and co-star, Abbi Jacobson, we’re plenty excited to see more from Glazer. The comedian is also executive producing the special.

No word yet on when it’s set to premiere. We’ll be eagerly awaiting additional info.

“Broad City” may be headed into its final season, but there’s still so much more fun to be had.

Comedy Central released the official trailer for Season 5 on Wednesday, Jan. 23, and it is full of hilarity featuring Abbi (Abbi Jacobson) and Ilana (Ilana Glazer). There’s friendship, awkwardness, and crazy adventures. We see the duo bringing their “fresh, virgin breast meat” bra shopping, creating a “safe space” for others, getting in trouble with a little girl’s mom, and more.

There might not be much in the way of new storylines revealed in the trailer, but it’s packed with funny moments past and examples of what fans love about the show. Yas, queen, yas! Watch below.

The show has followed Abbi and Ilana through their 20s as they’ve adjusted to adulthood and life in New York City. Their last hurrah is sure to be hilarious, and it kicks off on Jan. 24.

“Broad City” Season 5 is in a sprint to the finish.

The upcoming fifth season will also be the comedy’s last, but if it’s any consolation, stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson promise in a date announcement that it will be “so good.” The video, released by Comedy Central on Thursday, Oct. 25, shows scenes from over the years of Glazer and Jacobson running on the show. At the end, there’s a new one in which they reveal when to watch the Season 5 premiere.

Short of breath — from all that running of course — Glazer and Jacobson tell fans to tune in on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 10 p.m. on Comedy Central.

    “It’s so good,” Glazer adds.

“Broad City” fans can look forward to one final season of Glazer and Jacobson playing their characters Abbi and Ilana, two millennial friends going about life in New York City. We expect the usual misadventures and hilarity to ensue.

Make sure to mark your calendar as we prepare to say goodbye to “Broad City.”

  • ‘Broad City’ Season 4 Premiere Delayed Until September

Count on Abbi and Ilana to show up late.

Comedy Central announced that the Season 4 premiere of “Broad City” has been delayed. Originally scheduled for Aug. 23, the premiere is now set for Sept. 13 at 10:30 p.m. The network said the delay was a simple scheduling change.

The premiere episode, titled “Sliding Doors,” flashes back to when the best friends — played by show creators Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer — first met in 2001.

The fourth season finds “Broad City” going all “Game of Thrones” — winter is coming to New York City. The duo also land new jobs, welcome a visit from Abbi’s mom, trip out on mushrooms, discover their witchdom, and travel to Florida.

And of course, the season will boast a number of high-profile guest stars, including RuPaul, Shania Twain, Steve Buscemi, Sandra Bernhard, Mike Birbiglia, Jane Curtin, Susie Essman, Peri Gilpin, Alysia Reiner, Amy Ryan, Constance Shulman, and Wanda Sykes.

  • Best TV Shows to Watch for Singles

Broad CitySome days, it can feel like most TV shows are all about couples — or how to become part of one. But a growing number of shows are exploring single life without forcing their characters to find, or even want, love. Check out how these pioneers — and a few classics — are perfect for audiences content with solitude.

    ‘Master of None’ (2015 – )

Master of None,” finds the stand-up comedian confronting the hard truths about single life and a variety of other topics. While each episode focuses on a theme, the episodes are strung together by main character Dev’s blossoming relationship — and the work it takes to keep it going. “Master of None” consistently offers a realistic portrayal of love — something single TV-watchers will definitely appreciate — as his relationship goes from its honeymoon phase, to a plateau, to a state of major doubt. For viewers tired of TV’s constant portrayal of love as either euphoric or dramatic, “Master of None” offers an unflinchingly honest take, and one that ultimately leaves the audience to decide if that’s a good or a bad thing.

    ‘Bojack Horseman’ (2014 – )

“Bojack Horseman” is one of those shows you need to see to fully understand — it’s hard to explain just how insightful the show is, when on the outside it’s about a half-man, half-horse, former sitcom star dealing with his fading relevance and growing depression. While the backdrop of animated anthropomorphic animals is at times off-putting and other times hilarious, the heart of “Bojack Horseman” is in how Bojack (Will Arnett) deals with his own loneliness. With meaningful performances from Arnett and co-stars Alison Brie and Paul F. Tompkins, “Bojack” ultimately finds hope and happiness in solitude, reminding single members of the audience that it’s OK to hit rock bottom — because from there, the only way to go is up.

    Broad City (2014 – )

“Broad City” is the modern-day equivalent of “Laverne & Shirley” — a buddy comedy focused on the friendship of two 20-something women. The show is part of a refreshing trend of female characters that don’t exactly have their lives together — along with “2 Broke Girls,” and “Playing House” — except, in “Broad City,” Ilana (Ilana Glazer) and Abbi (Abbi Jacobson) are two stoners living in New York City, and their misadventures are far sillier than those in the other shows. And while Ilana and Abbi have their share of romantic entanglements, they’re part of a rare breed of TV character that’s comfortable being alone. “Broad City” is worth it for the clever comedy, and it’s also a nice break from the perpetual romances of other sitcoms.

    ‘The O.C.’ (2003 – 2007)

“The O.C.” delighted audiences for four seasons as it followed bad boy Ryan Atwood (Benjamin McKenzie) from the wrong side of the tracks straight into his adoption by an elite Newport Beach family. While the fun of the show was in watching Ryan acclimate to rich-kid life — and get into fist fights almost every week — “The O.C.” was at its best when dragging each character through his or her own relationship heartaches. “The O.C.” was filled with enough flirtation, romance, and character chemistry that a rewatch is bound to restore anyone’s faith in love.

    ‘Men at Work’ (2012 – 2014)

“Men at Work,” from creator Seinfeld” as it tackles the nuances of modern dating. In one episode, as Milo questions how to best use his smartphone in a new relationship, one can hear echoes of Jerry: “What … is the deal … with texting?” With clever writing and unpredictable plots, “Men at Work” brings good news to the single: Being alone is totally fine, and it’s all right to rely on your pals.

  • 5 Binge-Worthy TV Series You Should Watch Now

5 Binge-Worthy TV Series You Should Watch NowAs a term, “binge” hasn’t always had the most positive connotations. But that negativity is all in the past, now that streaming services have made marathoning full seasons of TV shows as easy as pressing a button and keeping your eyes open. Binge-watching is now a badge of honor — something to brag about at the office or over drinks. And with so much great content out there, locking out the world and plugging into a series for several hours a week (or a night) is really the only way to keep up.

But here’s a fact many fledgling binge-watchers don’t realize. A great show isn’t necessarily a binge-able one. There are shows like the dark British anthology “Black Mirror,” with individual chapters so peculiar and haunting that they demand some contemplation to really land. And there are shows like the gruesomely beautiful “Hannibal,” which requires a stomach of iron just to get through one episode per sitting.

But never fear. There are plenty of well-made series that satisfy the need for a good TV bender. So silence your phone and pop the popcorn. These five shows are ideal material for a good, long binge-watch.

    1. ‘Friday Night Lights’

If you’re a football fan, you’ll appreciate this much-adored drama for its scenes of gridiron glory and defeat in pigskin-obsessed Texas. If you’re not a football fan, you’ll still fall in love with the show’s vibrant, heartbreaking characters and its often idyllic but never naive vision of the American family. A perfect indie-rock/modern-country soundtrack, intimate camerawork, and a photogenic cast contribute to the binge-ableness of “Friday Night Lights.”

    2. ‘The West Wing’

It’s an election year, so it’s pretty much required of registered voters to embark on a first-time binge or an umpteenth rewatch of The West Wing.” You’ll be hooked on the breakneck pace of the show’s signature rhythmic dialogue and on the personal and professional lives of the idealistic staff who support the most iconic of fictional U.S. presidents, Jed Bartlet.

    3. ‘Broad City’

Hilarious life partners Abbi and Ilana are your tour guides through this comedy’s fun-house mirror version of New York City. In “Broad City,” watch them deal with lost cell phones, drugged-up recovery from wisdom tooth surgery, impossibly disgusting roommates, and more annoyances of pseudo-adult life. The girls’ friendship is the glue that holds the whole crude mess together and will keep you hitting that “next episode” button until there are no episodes left.

    4. ‘Doctor Who’

The long-running British science fiction series, “Doctor Who,” is a dream to marathon, because it’s actually several different shows in one. The basic premise — a near-immortal humanoid alien picks up companions and makes trouble throughout time and space — gives the series boundless freedom to bounce between high comedy, life-and-death action, historical fiction, and hard sci-fi, from episode to episode. Start with the first episode of the 2005 reboot, though there’s lots of fun, great performances, and goofy rubber masks to be found in the original 1963 series.

    5. ‘The Great British Baking Show’

A warning: You may want to hide your keys from yourself so you don’t proceed immediately to the bakery after the final bake-off is complete. The reality competition show, “The Great British Baking Show,” is scrumptious and charming, pitting amateur bakers of all ages and backgrounds — a construction worker versus a grandmother versus a high school student — in challenges both sweet and savory.

  • 13 Times Abbi and Ilana From ‘Broad City’ Were Ultimate #FriendshipGoals

Broad City” — with the same first names — are amazing. Our friends are great, but we won’t be fully happy until we get to Ilana/Abbi levels.

Here are the 13 times the “Broad City” babes were everything.

  • ‘Broad City’ Season 3 Trailer Is Peak #FriendshipGoals

Broad CityTrue friendship: making sure your pal has packed their anti-depressants, anti-anxieties, and vibrator!

The full trailer for “Broad City” season 3 is here, and it’s a delightful mash of Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer being as wacky, cuckoo, and lovably themselves. There’s not much sense of what this season’s plots will be, but the trailer does show a lot of funny gags, including Ilana in a dog hoodie and the two of them trying to ride a bike together.
They’re still coming up with great business ideas (a gynecologist who’s also a bikini waxer really is genius), and helping each other out of tough situations (like when Ilana gets stuck in a chain belt). We also get glimpses at cameos by Cynthia Nixon, Blake Griffin, and Tony Danza.

“Broad City” season 3 premieres Feb. 17 at 10 p.m. on Comedy Central.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Jennifer Lopez’s Controversial ‘Catchphrase,’ Benedict Cumberbatch’s New Names (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Jennifer Lopez was on “The Tonight Show” Monday night, and a couple of interesting things happened. For one, she and Jimmy Fallon played “Catchphrase” opposite actor Anthony Mackie and comedian Steve Higgins. They were all pretty amazing, and ultra competitive, although there were a few uncalled cheating incidents for the winning side. Just saying. (JLo, you were robbed.) That’s a key discussion in the comments, if you click on the video – that and the distraction powers of JLo’s own bottom line. The fans noticed. But still, it was a great game to watch and it’s not like anyone deflated a football or anything. (Too soon?) “That was the best round of the game that I’ve ever played in my life,” Jimmy insisted, once the lightning-fast first round was over. This is a sharp-minded group, controversial non-calls or not.
Also, in her sit-down interview, JLo talked about her live show, and discussed that her mother won a $2.4 million jackpot in the slot machines in Atlantic City. Seriously. Slot machines! This was a while ago, but if anyone didn’t need to just win the lottery it’s the mother of Jennifer Lopez. Spread the wealth, casino gods! Rob Lowe was on “Conan” and he shared memories from shooting “The Lyon’s Den” next to a dildo factory. (True story, Andy Richter was there too.) Rob also shared tips on never aging (he’s 50!), and did a live reading of James Franco’s poetry, since James did live readings from Rob’s first book in front of monuments. Rob still doesn’t know why James did it. No one really gets Franco. Jay Baruchel was also on “Conan,” insisting he’s not always super-high, but he has always had confidence in his looks. His mom raised him to believe he’s a catch! Danny DeVito was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and he talked about how he got his role in “Taxi” and what’s next for him on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” They’re in their 10th season of “Sunny” and Danny just loves it. He talks up a Wade Boggs storyline. On a different note, it turns out both Danny and Jimmy were altar boys and they shared stories. Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer of “Broad City” dressed up for “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” looking very “Dumb & Dumber” in their colorful tuxes. They discussed details from their Comedy Central show. Jimmy guest hosted “The Bachelor” this week, and he shared a “deleted scene” from when Chris Harrison trained him on how to announce the final rose.
Jimmy Kimmel thinks Benedict Cumberbatch has the best name in the world, but Jimmy was curious to see if he’d be as amazing with a different name. Cue this video with Benedict trying new names. “George Costanza” just doesn’t work for him, for some reason. But seriously, this is amazing.
Don Cheadle was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and he talked about hanging out with “The Avengers” cast. They also shared an early clip from his career. Ruth Wilson, who just won a Golden Globe for “The Affair,” was also on “Late Night,” discussing her theater school horror stories, including clown training.
