  • ‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ Is Being Adapted Into a Stage Musical

‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ Is Being Adapted Into a Stage Musical

Hey, if “Mean Girls” can do it…

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” came out in 2005 as an adaptation of Ann Brashares’ 2001 novel. Stars Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrara, Blake Lively, and Alexis Bledel returned for the 2008 sequel, and a third film is said to be in the works.

But now a stage musical is coming too.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Alcon Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment announced that Tony-winning producer Scott Delman (“Mean Girls”) and his Blue Spruce Productions have acquired the live theatrical rights for the property. The stage adaptation will be based on the films (as opposed to the novels, apparently), following four best friends who share a magical pair of pants.

No further details have been shared at this point. They’ll probably cast newbies as teen characters, but it would be so amazing to see the four original stars — now in their 30s — reunite both for a third movie and for the stage musical. We can dream.

  • ‘A Simple Favor’ Trailer: Blake Lively Is a Gone Girl

    A Simple Favor
    Lionsgate

Blake Lively is ghosting all of us.

Lionsgate released the first full trailer for “A Simple Favor,” which stars Lively as Emily Nelson, an elegant and impossibly cool woman who strikes up a sort-of friendship with fellow mom Stephanie (Anna Kendrick). Emily is mysterious and eccentric — even her husband (Henry Golding) calls her a “beautiful ghost.”

Then, Emily literally ghosts and disappears without a trace after calling Stephanie for the titular favor. Is she dead? Where did she go? Should her husband be a suspect?

The movie is based on Darcey Bell’s mystery thriller of the same name and directed by Paul Feig, who’s going a bit darker than his usual projects. It seems like there will be a lot of twists and turns and revelations, with Linda Cardellini at one point issuing this warning to Stephanie: “She was not a normal person like you or me. I’d never seen such a beautiful girl want to be so invisible.”

“A Simple Favor” opens in theaters September 14.

  • This Is Why Blake Lively Deleted Her Instagram Photos and Unfollowed Ryan Reynolds

'A Quiet Place' New York PremiereBlake Lively’s Instagram has been a wonderful way of watching her and husband Ryan Reynolds troll the hell out of each other. But now, it’s all gone! The actress has deleted all of her images and unfollowed her husband.

    Of course, fans were worried:

But don’t worry, love is not dead in the Lively/Reynolds household. The reason why the actress pulled the move appears to be as a publicity stunt for her upcoming film, “A Simple Favor.”

Lively posted this cryptic image on Twitter:

That same message — “What happened to Emily?” — also became Lively’s new bio on Instagram. Then, fans noticed the actress is following only women named Emily Nelson.

So this is what seems to be happening: The movie “A Simple Favor” is based on a novel of the same title by Darcey Bell. Lively plays Emily, a woman who mysteriously disappears one day. Her friend, Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), starts digging into what happened and uncovers some shocking secrets.

As a publicity stunt, this is a pretty good one, since Lively’s Instagram is well-followed and well-loved. Well-played, madam.

  • Alexis Bledel Reveals ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ Cast Has Pitched Third Movie

'Paint It Black' New York Premiere - After PartyThe “Sisterhood” is ready for its third act.

Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, Blake Lively, and Amber Tamblyn have remained close friends since they first starred together in 2005’s “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” and its 2008 sequel. And in recent years, they’ve often reunited to support each other’s work. But they’ve also talked about reuniting on the big screen.

Now, a third movie is closer than ever to actually happening, as Bledel (currently starring on Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale”) told Jimmy Fallon on Thursday’s “The Tonight Show.”

“We just pitched a third movie,” she revealed. “I hope it comes together. It would be so great.”

The time seems right for a revival, a decade after the second film. And revivals are big these days; Bledel herself was in the Netflix’s “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” follow-up.

Lively also recently added fuel to the fire at CinemaCon, saying, “I think it could really happen.”

“I think that people who love the movie want to see it. So, I mean, fans have gotten bigger movies made,” she added. Then, referencing husband Ryan Reynolds’ biggest hit, “‘Deadpool’ is all thanks to the fans. So I’m saying we’ll do it.”

And of course, the pants always fit!

  • Ryan Reynolds Tops Ugly Christmas Cookies by Baking Blake Lively Sweet Valentine’s Cake

Ryan Reynolds is getting closer to Martha Stewart status.

After being mocked by his wife, Blake Lively, and fans alike for his ridiculous Christmas cookies, the “Deadpool” star managed to outdo his past efforts. For Valentine’s Day, he baked a heart-shaped cake that actually turned out pretty well. Reynolds posted a photo on Instagram Wednesday, and the dessert looked festive and delicious. The only problem was that it might not actually have been edible, depending on how serious the actor was with his caption.

I baked this cake for my wife,” he wrote. “The icing is glue, ’cause I’m not a scientist.

We’re going to assume that’s a joke, but honestly, you never know.

Sadly, Lively didn’t go public with any equally sweet gestures for Reynolds. Instead, she celebrated her love affair with fashion before attending the Michael Kors 2018 New York Fashion Week show. The “All I See Is You” star shared photos of her outfit along with a literal love letter to the designer. In it, she thanked him for introducing her to New York City’s fashion world and told him, “From that day on, I’ve been yours. Always. Forever.”

Reynolds clearly has tough competition for Lively’s heart in Kors, but maybe his cake helped him win some points.

  • Blake Lively Suffers Injury on ‘The Rhythm Section’ Set

ENTERTAINMENT-US-CULTURE-TIME 100Let it never be said that acting is easy. Injuries can be part of the job, as Blake Lively can personally attest.

The actress has been busy filming Paramount’s upcoming spy flick “The Rhythm Section,” and news broke Monday that she suffered an on-set injury. The studio confirmed that she hurt her hand while shooting an action sequence, leading production to be put on hold, as Deadline reports.

“Paramount, Global Road (formerly known as IM Global) and producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli today confirmed that filming has been temporarily suspended on The Rhythm Section as Blake Lively sustained an injury to her hand whilst filming an action sequence,” the statement read. “Production will resume as soon as possible.”

Unfortunately for concerned fans, that is pretty vague; there are no details as to the extent of Lively’s injury or how long it may take her to heal. Hopefully, she isn’t too badly hurt and will be back to 100 percent soon.

The movie is based on novelist Mark Burnell’s book of the same name, which is the first in the Stephanie Patrick series. Lively plays the protagonist, a woman reeling after losing her family in a deadly plane crash. When she discovers that their deaths were part of a terror attack covered up by the government, she gets the push she needs to pull herself out of her spiral and seek the truth.

“The Rhythm Section” is slated to open on Feb. 22, 2019.

  • Blake Lively’s Birthday Post for Ryan Reynolds Shows Two Can Play His Game

'Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between' Costume Institute Gala - ArrivalsNot only did Blake Lively see Ryan Reynolds‘s most recent birthday message, she raised it.

With her “Deadpool”-starring husband turning 41 on Monday, she posted a special message for him on Instagram. This was no hearts-and-flowers post — it was a calculated, clever response to his August birthday post for her. After this, Reynolds is going to have to up his game in their war of posts.

Let’s quickly revisit what prompted Lively’s message: For her 30th birthday, Reynolds wrote a lovely message wishing a happy birthday to his “amazing wife.” However, in the photo accompanying the message, Lively was all but cropped out.

Happy Birthday to my amazing wife.

A post shared by Ryan Reynolds (@vancityreynolds) on

The year before, he tweeted a sappy birthday message — to Billy Ray Cyrus. Lively got a simple “happy birthday.”

This year, Lively got in the game, proving that she also has a knack for hilarious birthday messages; her “happy birthday, baby” message included a strategically cropped photo. The result? Reynolds took a backseat to Ryan Gosling, Canada’s — and the world’s — other favorite Ryan. Ouch.

    Happy Birthday, baby.

Lively definitely gets points for this. Reynolds had better start plotting his response now.

  • Blake Lively’s Sight Is Restored in Intense ‘All I See Is You’ Trailer

What starts out touching turns creepy in the new trailer for Blake Lively’s upcoming film “All I Can See Is You.”

The movie centers on a blind woman named Gina (Lively) who regains her sight after a successful surgery. While that sounds lovely, the aftermath turns out to be darker than expected. Gina’s husband, James (Jason Clarke), doesn’t cope well as she grows more independent; in fact, he starts to feel threatened and jealous.

The trailer, released Monday by Open Road Films, does a good job of showing the change. At first it captures Gina’s dependence on James and her excitement to rediscover the world. Then, tension starts to build, in part thanks to a cover of the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” sung by children (that’s somehow always creepier, right?) and the sound of a ticking clock. Suddenly, James doesn’t seem so supportive, especially as strange things begin to happen.

    Watch below.

“All I See Is You” opens in theaters on Oct. 27.

  • Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds Welcome Second Baby

"Deadpool" Fan EventAnother baby on board for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds!

The couple welcomed their second child in New York City, People reports. The baby’s sex and name were not revealed. The new addition joins their first child, 20-month-old James. According to Us Weekly, Lively’s sister Robyn and pal Taylor Swift visited mama in the hospital this week.

Reynolds and Lively met on the set of 2011’s “Green Lantern.” After filming concluded and Reynolds divorced Scarlett Johansson, the couple began dating and married in September 2012.

Lively’s pregnancy was first spotted in the spring, when she was filming extra scenes for the movie “The Shallows.”

The two actors have been open about wanting a big family. “I’m one of five kids. My husband is one of four, so we’re officially breeders,” Lively said on “Today” in June. “You can go on our website and we will give you some of our children.”

    Congrats to their family!

  • Blake Lively Says ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3’ Could Happen

Premiere Of "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2" - Inside ArrivalsBlake Lively is making waves for her most recent movie, “The Shallows,” but it’s her first-ever big screen role that’s got our attention today: Lively says that a third installment in the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” series may be in the works.

During an interview with People and Entertainment Weekly editorial director Jess Cagle, the actress discussed a potential “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3” — and based on her comments, it seems like all but a sure thing that the flick will happen someday.

“There’s a strong chance there might be a third,” Lively told Cagle. “The four of us are still best friends. To be able to create something together again has always been a dream of ours.”

Those four, of course, include Lively, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera, and Amber Tamblyn, who worked together on the original 2005 film and its 2008 follow-up. Though there’s been a long gap between the last film and now, Lively said a threequel could still happen, so long as it “really made sense” and “honor[s] the story and the legacy.”

There are five books in the Ann Brashares series on which the films are based, with the last one, “Sisterhood Everlasting,” focusing on the main foursome as they prepare to turn 30 while juggling adult relationships. That plot could fit in nicely with the actress’s own lives, since all of them are married now, and two of them have children. According to Lively, those real-life experiences would inform any continued onscreen adventures.

“You deal with different things [at this age],” the actress explained to Cagle. “So we wouldn’t be making a movie for 16-year-olds again. We’d be making a movie trusting that our audience grew up with us, and I think that would be really interesting to explore.”

We totally agree. Our fingers are crossed we’ll see more from our favorite sisterhood soon.
