  • Scarlett Johansson Still Wants a Black Widow Movie, Possibly a Prequel

2016 Toronto International Film FestivalScarlett Johansson has reprised her role as Black Widow multiple times since making her MCU debut in “Iron Man 2,” but she doesn’t seem to have tired of her superhero character yet.

Even with all of the Avengers films on Marvel and Disney’s slate, Johansson is still interested in a standalone Black Widow movie. The topic has come up repeatedly over the years, and most recently, she opened up about the prospect in an interview with Variety.

“I would like for it to happen under the right circumstances,” Johansson told the publication. “I think there’s a lot of opportunity to mine that story line.”

The superhero’s origins, in particular, seem like an interesting place to start, the actress shared. “She’s got a really rich origins story,” Johansson said. “There’s a lot of places you can go — you can bring it back to Russia. You could explore the Widow program. … You could really uncover the identity of who this person is, where she comes from and where she’s part of.”

Johansson called a prequel a “possibility,” but she doesn’t think it’s the only option. She mentioned some other avenues, namely, if the Avengers were to fall apart. It all sounds intriguing, but first, the project needs to get off the ground — and sooner rather than later.

“If I did it, I’d have to do it while I still actually wanted to wear a skin-tight catsuit,” Johansson said. “I don’t know how much longer that’s going to be.”

Fans may be able to help speed things along. “I think if the fans wanted it enough, then it would probably become a reality,” Johansson said.

  • Heidi Moneymaker: Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow Stunt Double

When Black Widow’s feet and fists start flying, producers of “Captain America: Civil War” call in Heidi Moneymaker. A former college gymnast at UCLA, Moneymaker is the stunt double for Scarlett Johansson whose goal is to move and think like the actress.

“I look at Scarlett’s strengths because it’s her character so I want to make sure she can do as much of the fight as possible,” Moneymaker tells Made in Hollywood Teen reporter Kylie Erica Mar. “We’ll come up with some new fun stuff, but we’ll usually use, like, the hand she likes to use. I know she’s good at knee spins so we’ll throw some of those in there.”

An actress and stunt woman whose skills are also on display in the “Start Trek” and “Fast and Furious” films, Moneymaker particularly enjoys Black Widow.

“The thing I like about her the most is that she’s not technically a super hero,” Moneymaker explains. “She doesn’t have a special serum that was injected into her that made her super strong and crazy. She has to be really smart and use her brain, which I love. And she kind of does everything. She doesn’t have a fight style. She has every fight style.”

  • Black Panther and Black Widow Face Off in Deleted ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Scene

Black Widow and Black Panther may have met their matches in each other.

USA Today released another deleted scene included on the “Captain America: Civil War” Blu-ray, and it features Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff questioning Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. It takes place after a brutal battle among Cap (Chris Evans), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), and Black Panther. The latter wants to take the Winter Soldier prisoner for the crime of blowing up his father and other world leaders.

The clip is a tantalizing bit of passive-aggressive bantering, with T’Challa asking, “You’re not used to the truth, are you?”
Natasha coolly reminds him that his vibranium suit puts him under the restrictions of the accord governing superheroes. But Black Panther shrugs this off. Seems the King of the Wakanda plays by his own rules.

The fun scene builds on the relationship between the two characters. Perhaps it’s an indication that Black Widow could pop up in the “Black Panther” movie, which opens in theaters Feb. 16, 2018.

  • Joss Whedon Wants to Make a Black Widow Movie for Marvel

black widow, scarlett johansson, marvel, joss whedonJoss Whedon made his mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “The Avengers” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” before walking away from the franchise, though according to the director, he could be persuaded to return to the superhero realm with the right subject.

That’s what Whedon told IGN during an interview at Comic-Con last week, when he named none other than Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow as his dream movie subject.

“If someone pointed at me and said, ‘Do you want to do a Black Widow movie?’, the answer would be ‘Duh!’” Whedon told the site.

That’s a bit of a turnaround from the man who parted ways with the MCU after the burnout of shooting the “Avengers” flicks took its toll. But Whedon has famously been interested in telling female-centric stories (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” anyone?), so this seems like a natural fit. And his existing relationship with Johansson — and her onscreen alter ego — certainly doesn’t hurt, either.

The director already has a pretty specific vision for the flick, too, should it ever come to fruition.

“I think that character really is very interesting and very earthbound, so it’s the kind of action that I got to do less of with somebody like Thor or The Vision,” Whedon told IGN of the “gritty” Black Widow. ” … [You can] really do a spy thriller [with her character]. Like really do a good, paranoid, ‘John le Carré on crack’ sort of thing. That would be really fun.”

We’ll keep our fingers crossed that Marvel makes Whedon’s dream come true.
