  • ‘Barry’ Trailer: College-Aged Barack Obama Tries to Find His Place

The man we now know as President Barack Obama was once just a college kid called “Barry,” as we’ll soon see in the new Netflix film of the same name.

The streaming service dropped the movie’s official trailer Monday, showing a young Obama at the start of his junior year at Columbia University. He finds himself straddling multiple social spheres and struggling to define who he is and what it means to be an American. Netflix describes the film “the story of a young man grappling with those same issues that his country, and arguably the world, are still coming to terms with 35 years later.”

Based on the trailer, the film will provide an intriguing look at his past.
Devon Terrell plays Obama, and the cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Ashley Judd, Jason Mitchell, Jenna Elfman, Avi Nash, Annabelle Attanasio, and Ellar Coltrane.

“Barry,” which is directed by Vikram Gandhi, was met with praise when it premiered at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival; its next stop is Netflix on Dec. 16.

  • Hemingway Proves His Point in ‘Papa: Hemingway in Cuba’ Exclusive Clip

EXCLUSIVE: Clip - "Papa: Hemingway In Cuba"

The legendary Ernest Hemingway was on-hand, as a journalist, covering many of the 20th century’s biggest events: World War I, World War II, and the Spanish Civil War. He was also present in Havana for the Cuban Revolution.

The new biopic “Papa: Hemingway in Cuba” traces some of his time there, with a particular focus on his friendship with Denne Bart Petitclerc (Giovanni Ribisi). In this exclusive sneak peek, Hemingway (Adrian Sparks), known affectionately as Papa, apologizes for rambling to his new acquaintance.

“You’re among friends here,” Petitclerc assures him.

And then Hemingway asks him to choose a number between one and 10. When Petitclerc picks the number six, Hemingway starts scratching away with a pen and paper. The results prove that the famous writer never needed an excess of words to get a point across.

“Papa: Hemingway in Cuba” opens in theaters April 29th.Papa Hemingway in CubaWant more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.

  • Jesse Owens Goes for Gold in Stirring ‘Race’ Trailer

Race movieIt’s been nearly 80 years since Jesse Owens broke records and won four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. As a black athlete, he also broke barriers and dealt a blow to Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy.

Owens and his rise to become of the greatest track and field athletes of all time is the subject of “Race,” which debuted its first full-length trailer today. The biopic follows Owens (Stephan James of “Selma”) from his early collegiate success to his participation in the Olympics. Along the way, though, Owens faced racial prejudice, as well as pressure from the black community to boycott the Nazi-run event.

Owens’s story has always been an uplifting one, and the trailer is appropriately stirring. And like last year’s “Selma,” it shows how far race relations in America have come — and how not enough has changed.

“Race” also stars Jason Sudeikis and Jeremy Irons, and opens in theaters February 19.
