  • 9 Reasons Why You’ll Always Love ‘Hocus Pocus’

You’ll grow out of trick or treating and getting in costume, but “Hocus Pocus” is forever.

The 1993 Disney Halloween classic is practically as old as the Sanderson sisters these days — the film turns 25 on July 16, 1993 — although it doesn’t look a day over “let’s watch it again!”

There are many reasons “Hocus Pocus” stands the time (Three top-of-their-game leads! Curses! Folklore!), so here are nine that will make you want to put the film on right this minute.

  • Animated ‘Addams Family’ Film Reveals Star-Studded Voice Cast, Plot & Release Date

Here’s your first creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky look at the upcoming animated “reimagining” of “The Addams Family.”

MGM released an image of the characters — there they are above! — and details on the voice cast.

    • Oscar Isaac will voice Gomez Addams
    • Charlize Theron is Morticia Addams
    • Chloë Grace Moretz is Wednesday Addams
    • Finn Wolfhard is Pugsley Addams
    • Nick Kroll is Uncle Fester
    • Bette Midler is Grandmama
    • Allison Janney plays the family’s nemesis, Margaux Needler.

The film will be directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, based on a screenplay by Matt Lieberman.

Here’s a statement from Conrad Vernon:

“Greg and I have always been a fan of the Addams Family in past versions, so when we set out to make this movie, we were excited to do something new. With that in mind, I drew from the brilliantly original Charles Addams New Yorker cartoons for the look of the film and decided to tell the story of how Gomez and Morticia meet, find their house and start their family. This unique approach is what drew me in to direct the film. The reimagining also extends to the stellar cast we’ve put together who will each bring their own spin to our film that will appeal to longtime fans of the Addams and introduce them to a new generation.”

So they plan to “tell the story of how Gomez and Morticia meet, find their house and start their family.”

Jonathan Glickman, president of MGM Motion Pictures Group, added:

“Conrad and Greg are masters of animation with the keen ability to create something both kids and their parents will enjoy for different reasons. Adding to that a world class caliber of talent with Oscar, Charlize, Chloë, Finn, Nick, Bette and Allison – we can’t wait to bring their fresh and modern take on The Addams Family to the worldwide audience.”

Here are more details via MGM’s release:

“Based on the famous New Yorker creations of Charles Addams, this animated action-comedy will follow the Addams family whose lives begin to unravel when they face-off against a crafty reality-TV host while also preparing for their extended family to arrive for a major celebration, Addams-style.

Morticia, devilishly devoted to her husband and children, is the pale glue that holds her clan together.

Gomez, debonair, sinister and passionately in love with his wife, is enthusiastic about whatever dreadful scheme he’s cooked up.

Wednesday is a brilliant and sinister teenage girl with long braids and dead-pan wit.

Pugsley, a menacing 10 year old on over-drive, enjoys getting into any kind of dreadful mischief he can find.

Mad Uncle Fester is good natured, merry and likes to create mayhem any way he can.

Grandmama is smitten with her grandchildren who enjoy her cookies shaped like bats and skulls.

Margaux Needler, the reality TV makeover queen, is consumed with a desire for absolute suburban, pastel perfection.”

Do you think this animated film can live up to the standard of the 1964 black-and-white TV show? Or the 1991 live-action movie, with Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia? Or that film’s 1993 sequel?

“The Addams Family” is scheduled for release on October 11, 2019 — just in time for Halloween!

  • 8 ‘First Wives Club’ Moments That Still Give Us Life

first wives club quotesNeed some inspiration? A few daily affirmations, if you will? Leave it to the 1996 masterpiece that is “The First Wives Club.”

We still quote it and copy it decades later, and find its memorable moments pretty much apply to any every day situation. We are all Annie, Brenda, and Elise.

Here are eight “First Wives Club” moments we can’t get through life without.

  • Bette Midler Just Crushed Our ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Dreams

A sequel to 1993’s “Hocus Pocus” has been talked about for years and years (and years), and while there have been some recent rumors that the beloved Disney flick is set for a revival, star Bette Midler just officially crushed our dreams.

In a Facebook Q&A with fans this week, Midler answered a query about whether “Hocus Pocus 2” would ever happen — and said, in no uncertain terms, that it would not.

“After all these years and all the fan demand, I do believe I can stand and firmly say an unequivocal no,” Midler responded.

That’s a different tune than the one Midler was singing just a year ago, when the actress said in a Reddit AMA that she would be on board for a sequel, and urged fans to inundate Disney with requests to make it happen. Costars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy also chimed in with their support for a second flick.

So what changed? It’s unclear, though Midler isn’t wrong that a lot of time has passed; it’s been more than 20 years since the film first hit theaters, and you’d think that if Disney wanted to make another one, they would have already done so. The Mouse House briefly conjured up sequel talk again when they staged a new “Hocus Pocus”-themed show at Disney World this year, but no further announcement ever materialized.

While we’re disappointed by Midler’s statement, we can’t say we’re surprised. We’ll keep our brooms crossed just in case a miracle happens, but it seems we’ve seen the last of the Sanderson sistahs.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Mean Tweets With Liam Neeson, The Rock; Hilarious ‘Empire’ Parody ‘Jimpire’

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” is doing the classic “Mean Tweets” segment differently this time. This whole week is Mean Tweets Week with celebrities stopping by to read mean tweets live on stage, a few at a time, as opposed to taping them in advance and airing them in one segment. (Ratings bait!) On Monday, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kristen Bell and Jeff Bridges read off tweets. Tuesday night, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Bette Midler, and Liam Neeson read off mean tweets. The Rock had a great response to his tweet and Bette’s wasn’t even that mean. Liam had a kinda cute little defeated walk-off after his mean tweet. Poor little Liam. Where’s that set of skills you’re supposed to have, man? Break out the phone and growl!

Over on “The Tonight Show,” Jimmy Fallon did a brilliant and ambitious — 10 minute! — “Empire” parody called “Jimpire,” featuring several great cameos … and then Donald Trump. It’s awesome, but as one commenter pointed out, Justin Timberlake should really be the next heir to “The Tonight Show.” Lock him in now.

Donald Trump stopped by “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and played a little quote game of “Trump Or Colbert,” with The Donald deciding who said it, himself or Stephen’s over-the-top conservative character on “The Colbert Report.” You may have noticed that Trump never apologizes for anything and he said he has nothing to apologize for. Stephen, however, apologized for some of the things he’s said about Trump.
Lea Michele was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” — in a very revealing dress — and discussed her character’s neck brace in “Scream Queens.”
Speaking of “Scream Queens,” queen Chanel No. 1 herself, Emma Roberts, was on “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” and talked about having to kiss her old Nickelodeon buddy Nat Wolff. It was in North Carolina and they were all sweaty and she wiped off his sweat because she can’t handle sweat stache.
The amazing Patrick Stewart was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and dressed very casually for the occasion. He may as well have just shown up in his jammies. He talked about this late night wardrobe malfunction, the fact that he was once fired from his small-town paper, and the story of Ronald Reagan visiting the set of “Star Trek: the Next Generation.” Apparently, when you’re POTUS, you can just sit in the captain’s chair without asking.
“Scandal” beauty Kerry Washington talked to Jimmy Kimmel about the Emmys (including her dress), and how her parents embarrassed her at the Emmys a couple of years ago.
Anne Hathaway was on “The Tonight Show” and admitted she was scared of Robert De Niro on the set of “The Intern.” She said it was nothing he was doing, it was just her projecting so much onto him beause he’s the best.

  • Best of Late Night TV: New Bachelorettes Britt and Kaitlyn Dump Jimmy Kimmel, Kevin Spacey Does Impressions (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

On Monday night, ABC revealed that “The Bachelorette” will have two rosemistresses for the first time in the show’s history. (There were two Bachelors at one time, on Byron Velvick’s season, and the women of the house voted early on to pick one to stay.) Jimmy Kimmel sat down with the two new bachelorettes: Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson. Jimmy grilled them on what will happen (they’re not sure of the details yet), and what happens if they like the same guy. Jimmy also had them practice dumping a guy. Love when Kaitlyn dumped Jimmy for Guillermo, and Britt pulled the Matt Damon card on Jimmy and slapped him. Bette Midler was also on JKL and tucked her feet up on the couch. She looks amazing. She talked about starting in radio, although she didn’t get to be on the air at first, and her career from there. She was fired from a bunch of retail jobs along the way. It’s a good thing she can perform! The stage is her home, she said, but she won’t do the huge stage shows anymore. However, she did sing Kim Kardashian’s tweets. It’s amazing. Watch.
Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and Conan O’Brien all had repeats on Monday, but David Letterman was up and running, and he talked to “House of Cards” star Kevin Spacey and the new Cinderella, “Downtown Abbey’s” Lily James.

Kevin and Dave talked about how, the last time they talked, Dave was confused about Twitter and thought you had to pay for it. Kevin wanted to make it clear that you don’t pay for Twitter but you do pay for Netflix. If you pay for Twitter, someone is ripping you off. If you don’t pay for Netflix, you’re ripping Kevin off. Haha. Kevin also talked about his theater project in the Middle East, working with young, emerging talent. He said you can sometimes accomplish things artistically and culturally that you can’t do politically. Interesting talk. Kevin also did his Jack Lemmon and Johnny Carson impressions. Jack was a huge mentor for Kevin, and they eventually worked on four projects together, including the amazing “Glengarry Glen Ross.” Kevin Spacey is everything. He should host one of these things someday. Lily said she’s only rarely recognized for “Downton Abbey.” She told the story of being stuck on a boat with a friend and she just said the words ‘Downtown Abbey’ and then it was chaos since apparently everyone wanted to hear about it. The video is too short – they don’t have enough from her.
