  • Ben Affleck Will Direct, Star in ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ Remake

An Alternative View Of The "Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice" New York PremiereBen Affleck has found his next directing project.

Variety reports the star will direct and star in a remake of “Witness For the Prosecution.” Billy Wilder first adapted the Agatha Christie story in a 1957 film starring Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich, and Charles Laughton. The movie received six Academy Award nominations

Affleck will also produce the remake, along with BFF Matt Damon, Jennifer Todd and the Agatha Christie estate. Christopher Keyser (“Party of Five,” “Tyrant”) will write the script.

The movie centers on the trial of a man accused of murdering a wealthy widow who named him as her sole heir just before her death. When man’s wife testifies against him for the prosecution, the trial takes a shocking turn. It’s unclear if Affleck will play the accused murderer or his lawyer.

The star recently wrapped on directing the Prohibition drama “Live By Night” and is set to direct and star in a standalone Batman movie.

  • Watch Ben Affleck Go OFF About ‘Bullsh-t F–king Outrage’ Deflategate

Well, HBO’s “Any Given Wednesday with Bill Simmons” is off to a nice, viral start. Ben Affleck was just on Simmons’s premiere episode, and — unlike many talk show hosts — Simmons allowed his guest to share as much as he wanted. And Batfleck, a proud Boston native, wanted to share the ultimate motor-and-foul-mouthed rant about Deflategate, and the “smear campaign” against “classy” New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady — the “greatest player ever.”

    Watch the whole video here:
Some people think he’s slurring in parts, but either way, he’s as passionate and opinionated as any fan (or tinfoil-hat wearing conspiracy theorist) and this is a refreshing change from the more reserved, professional Ben we’ve gotten used to seeing in other interviews.

    Here’s just a part of Ben’s rant:

“Deflategate is the ultimate bulls–t f–king outrage of sports ever. It’s so f–king stupid that I can’t believe [it]. They gave him a suspension for a quarter of the season, which would be equivalent of suspending a baseball player for 40 f–king days—40 quarter days, to be exact. Which is what they do when you get busted taking steroids. And by the way, if the NFL really knew how to test for steroids and HGH, there’d be no f–king NFL. So instead, what they did was suspend Tom Brady for four days for not giving them his f–king cell phone and for having a friend who called himself the deflator. If I got in trouble for all the things that my friends called themselves, I would be finished, OK? You wanna give a guy—because he doesn’t give you his cell phone—a punishment? I would never give an organization as leak-prone as the NFL my f–king cell phone so you can just look through my e-mails and listen to my voicemails. The first thing they’re going to do is leak this s–t.”

“I don’t know. Maybe it’s funny, lovely sex messages from his wife [Gisele Bündchen]. Maybe it’s just friendly messages from his wife.Maybe Tom Brady is so f–king classy and such a f–king gentleman that he doesn’t want people to know that he may have reflected on his real opinion of some of his co-workers: guys he plays with, guys he plays against. His real feelings. I wouldn’t want guys who I didn’t think were very good to know I didn’t think they were very good. I wouldn’t want guys who I thought were great to know I thought they were great. I’d want to keep my opinions to myself. Surely his opinions about professional football are contained in his e-mails and his texts in his f–king telephone.”

Tom Brady should at least send him some flowers after that, no? Chris Evans is a passionate Brady fan, too (he wants to enjoy nice walks on the beach with his idol), and is probably kicking himself that he didn’t get to share this exact rant first.

  • Matt Damon on Ben Affleck: ‘Jason Bourne Would Kick the S–t Out of Batman!’

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are famously the closest of Hollywood friends. But onscreen, Damon thinks his action hero “Bourne Identity” character would crush Affleck’s Batman.

“Jason Bourne would kick the s–t out of Batman—absolutely!” Damon tells E! News at the premiere of his film “The Martian,” in theaters Oct. 2, at Toronto International Film Festival. “Batman’s gotta take on Superman first,” he adds. “If he could beat him then maybe he could take on Jason Bourne.”

If the BFFs ever do battle it out, it would make it their eighth big screen appearance together as actors, starring in “Field of Dreams,” “School Ties,” “Glory Daze,” “Chasing Amy,” “Good Will Hunting,” “Dogma,” and “The Third Wheel.”

Nearly 18 years ago, Damon and Affleck’s collaboration on “Good Will Hunting” earned nine Academy Award nominations, ultimately winning the duo a Best Original Screenplay statue. Of course, fans want to know about their next joint effort.

“I wish I knew, Damon tells NY Times in a recent fan-submitted Q&A session, “I would love to do that.”

“Now it’s just more of a scheduling issue for us,” Damon says, citing Affleck’s “Batman” franchise commitments. “I think he knows what he’s doing until 2020.”

Since 1997’s “Good Will Hunting” Damon went on to collaborate with other members of the film’s team. For 2002’s “Gerry,” he shares a writing credit with Affleck’s brother Casey Affleck, who costarred with them in the drama, and it served as another reunion with director Gus Van Sant. Ben Affleck continued to write as well, penning 2010’s “The Town” and 2007’s “Gone Baby Gone,” among other projects.

Together, Damon and Affleck have re-teamed as executive producers and presenters of HBO’s “Project Greenlight” – a documentary about filmmaking, now in its fourth season, returning to the cable network Sept. 20.

But the Hollywood buddies have not rekindled their Oscar magic together as writers ever since their big win.

“‘Good Will Hunting’ was really easy to write for us because we were unemployed,” he recalls. “And nobody was waiting for it either. It’s not like we were on deadline. The world didn’t care.”

He describes writing 2002’s “Promised Land” with John Krasinski as a “blast,” but says that synchronicity is paramount in the creative process. “The one thing about writing is that it’s very time consuming,” he explains. “And the only way to do it is when you’re basically in the same place as your writing partner.”
