Fourth ‘Avengers’ Title, Trailer, Release Date Revealed

    Marvel Studios

After months of speculation we finally know the title of the fourth “Avengers” film and it turns out … it’s something people predicted ages ago. That’s right, your fourth “Avengers” film is subtitled … “Endgame.” This isn’t a huge surprise, even if you haven’t been scrolling through Reddit discussion threads looking for clues, as the title leaked on cinematographer Trent Opaloch’s official website earlier this year. (Also, it’s something that Doctor Strange says “endgame in “Avengers: Infinity War.” So there’s that.) Marvel Studios sneakily tweeted and posted the trailer on YouTube without the title, so you’d have to watch the moody two-minute piece. So why don’t we just do that now?

    Pretty neat, huh?

Chris Evans’ Captain America crying, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow plotting, Mark Ruffalo‘s Bruce Banner fretting, Robert Downey Jr‘s Iron Man floating and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye um, not being dead! Yay! Also, we love the button with Paul Rudd‘s Scott Lang coming to Avengers HQ volunteering his services (not explained: how he gets out of the quantum realm, which is where we saw him last, adrift, at the end of “Ant-Man and the Wasp”). It’s a pretty perfect teaser and definitely sets things up nicely for the battle ahead (fans, based on leaked set photos, have already speculated about a certain amount of time travel-y business going down). Also the trailer ends on an unexpected word: “April.”

That’s right – the movie’s release date has slightly shifted. Instead of opening on May 3rd, it will now debut on April 26, 2019. (“Avengers: Infinity War” did a similar shuffle.) I think I speak for everyone when I say: the sooner the better. Thanos has a lot to answer for.

Never mind the fact that “Avengers 4” is still several months from being released — there’s been a plot twist.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige assured fans in late October that the upcoming film’s trailer would arrive “before the end of the year,” but now that doesn’t look so certain. Joe Russo, who directed the film alongside his brother Anthony Russo, has complicated everything we thought we knew. During a Q&A on Thursday, Nov. 8 in his Los Angeles bar Duello, Russo indicated that the trailer might not actually arrive in 2018, as Comicbook.com reports.

“When can we expect to see the Avengers 4 trailer?” the director said. “You may or may not see it before the calendar turns to 2019.”

Apparently, the editing process is such a huge undertaking that they’re only about halfway through. Russo said they’re “really just scratching the surface” on their visual effects shots, and there are “more than 300” in the superhero flick. They’ve also only begun to work on the score, he said.

There are still nearly two months left in 2018, so fans can keep hoping for a trailer sooner rather than later. That said, you may not want to count on Feige’s earlier guarantee; a lot of work still has to be done.

At least there’s still an official title reveal to look forward to. We expect that will still come by year’s end.

“Avengers 4” is scheduled to open May 3.

  • ‘Avengers 4’ Will Bring Back Another Unexpected (Dead) Marvel Character

    Marvel

Looks Marvel characters left and right are coming back from the dead in “Avengers 4.”

Last week, actor Frank Grillo teased that his character Crossbones (who died in “Captain America: Civil War”) will make a surprise appearance in “Avengers 4.” Now, one of the movie’s producers has revealed the return of yet another dead character — “Doctor Strange” mentor The Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton.

At a panel during the Austin Film Festival, “Avengers 4” executive producer Michael Grillo and screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely were discussing the complicated logistics of scheduling so many major stars for the shoot when Grillo casually dropped this bomb.

“When we got Tilda Swinton, she was just a one-day availability,” he said.

Swinton’s The Ancient One mentored Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) before being killed by evil sorcerer Kaecillus (Mads Mikkelsen).

Like Crossbones, The Ancient One could appear in a flashback. Or as many fans suspect, the movie will play with timelines, so perhaps she comes back in a different way. In any case, it definitely seems like “Avengers 4” will be even more star-packed than expected.

“Avengers” opens in theaters May 3, 2019.

Katherine Langford, the Golden-Globe-nominated star of Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why,” is in “Avengers 4,” but we have no idea who she’s playing.

The Wrap reports she’s already completed filming her role, whatever it is. Fan spec is that she could be playing an older Cassie Lang (daughter of Ant-Man Scott Lang) or Kate Bishop, who takes over as Hawkeye in the comics.

Although she’s no longer on “Thirteen Reasons Why,” she recently landed another Netflix series. She’ll star as Nimue in “Cursed,” a new take on King Arthur.

Nimue is a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful Lady of the Lake, according to The Wrap. (And will be, if we remember our Monty Python correctly, handing out swords and kingships accordingly.)

  • ‘Avengers 4’ Trailer Confirmed for ‘Before the End of the Year’

‘Avengers 4’ Trailer Confirmed for ‘Before the End of the Year’

    Avengers: Infinity War
    Marvel Studios

Your eyeballs will behold the glory of the first “Avengers 4” trailer at some point in the next two months.

So protect yourself. Don’t do anything stupid and ruin your chances of seeing it. Maybe just stay home the whole time. School/work will understand.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige previously said we’d get the title for “Avengers 4” toward the end of the year, after the first promotion for “Captain Marvel.” Now that we’ve seen the early “Captain Marvel” promotion, it’s looking like the title and trailer for “Avengers 4” may drop together.

Critics Choice reporter Erick Weber just updated that Feige confirmed a trailer by the end of 2018. It’s late October, so two months remain:

Brushing past Namor and the ill-fated “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” … when do you think we’ll get that “Avengers 4” trailer?

Marvel fans are speculating that the trailer could be tied to an upcoming Disney/Marvel Comics release — including “Ralph Breaks the Internet” on November 21; “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” on December 14; or “Mary Poppins Returns” on December 19.

However, ComicBook added this intriguing note:

“Of course, there’s also been another possibility: November 29, 2018. That date marks the one-year anniversary of the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer, which was one of the most highly-anticipated events in cinema that year. The trailer’s release was touted as a major event, and it resulted in one of YouTube’s most-viewed movie trailers of all time, wracking up millions of views in record time.”

November 29 is a Thursday this year. What do you think: “Good Morning America” drop that morning, or “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that night — with an appearance from the cast?

The November guess fits with previous speculation on the release of the first “Avengers 4” trailer. That was also mostly based on what Marvel had done before.

So, if that’s the case, your eyeballs will behold the glory of the “Avengers 4” trailer in just one month. Keep a box of tissues on standby for whenever this thing drops, ’cause there’s no way the follow-up to “Avengers: Infinity War” won’t flex your emotions.

‘Avengers 4’ to Bring Back Surprising ‘Captain America’ Character

    Marvel

“Avengers 4” will feature a blast from Captain America’s past.

Next year’s sequel to “Avengers: Infinity War” will feature the surprising feature of Crossbones aka Brock Rumlow, played by Frank Grillo.

Grillo himself confirmed on the UFC Unfiltered podcast that he’ll appear in “Avengers 4.”

“[Crossbones] makes an appearance in the next ‘Avengers’ movie, but it’s a flashback,” he teased.

“And I’m allowed to say whatever I want because I’m never doing another Marvel movie … because I’m 117 years old.”

Crossbones was an antagonist in “Captain America: Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War.” Rumlow initially posed as a S.H.I.E.L.D. operative, but was actually working for the nefarious HYDRA. After his body was burned in “Winter Soldier,” he wore mask.

At the beginning of “Civil War,” he tried to kill himself and Captain America in an explosion, which Scarlet Witch was able to contain but ended up taking out Crossbones.

Grillo is certainly not afraid of revealing spoilers or rumors about the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Earlier this week, he told Larry King that the next “Captain America could be African American. It could be a woman.”

At this point, even “Avengers” fans are mocking “Avengers” fans for being so obsessed with the “Avengers 4” title.

It’s OK if no one tells us the title. It’s OK if we have to wait. It’s not that deep.

But it’s also OK to be caught up in the hype — it’s better than not caring about anything at all! But you should at least be able to laugh at yourself.

Don Cheadle (James Rhodes/War Machine) — who was on the front lines when Mark Ruffalo spoiled the end of “Avengers: Infinity War” — has been teasing fans on Twitter after Ruffalo’s (fake?) title tease.

Cheadle either doesn’t know what the real “Avengers 4” title will be, or he’s pretending he doesn’t know as fans try to decode his responses.

He started trolling some fake clues with fans, and then got the ultimate superfan response:

Yes! This is that superfan in action:

The “Avengers” directors and stars have certainly been keeping fans busy — from Mark Ruffalo getting “fired” for spoiling the title on “The Tonight Show,” to the directors themselves sharing behind-the-scenes hints and wrap photo teases.

Marvel Studios should be sharing the official title pretty soon. Boss Kevin Feige said it would come out toward the end of the year, after the first “Captain Marvel” tease. So … any day now.

And then what? Superfans will have to decode every inch of the title, then the first trailer. It’s a good thing we have a lot of time to kill until “Captain Marvel” shows up in March, and “Avengers 4” in April/May.

Chris Evans is trying to backtrack from his potential Ruffalo.

It had already been reported that Evans planned to hang up his shield as Captain America/Steve Rogers after “Avengers 4.” Evans gave fuel to that fire on October 4 when he tweeted about wrapping “Avengers 4,” adding some poignant notes about playing the character for the past eight years.

It read like a goodbye. It read to many like a goodbye where Captain America probably dies. Fans were in tears. It got heavy.

    Avengers: Infinity War
    Marvel Studios

Evans was put on the spot during an appearance at ACE Comic Con in Chicago. He addressed the tweet and the intense emotional response it evoked (via Comicbook):

“I should clarify that I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in someway a spoiler. I should clarify that regardless of how ‘Avengers 4’ ends, I would have tweeted the exact same thing. That last day of filming was a very emotional day and it was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies, this unbelievable tapestry.

You feel a lot more emotions than I think even I thought I’d feel. And I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude. I know it had a ripple effect but I am neither confirming or denying anything.”

    Uh huh. OK.

Also at the Comic Con event, Evans was asked what it was like for his Steve Rogers to watch his childhood BFF Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) die two times — including Bucky’s dust-busting at the end of “Avengers: Infinty War.” Evans’ answer suggested some serious Stucky feels ahead:

“I think that’s one of the more precious relationships for Steve Rogers, you know. It’s one of the few relationships that’s been able to transfer into modern day. It’s one of the few relationships that he can identify as anything we would call home. I don’t know how far I can go into that response. Yeah, I’m going to have to maybe leave it there.”

Oh if you leave it there the fans will pick it up and run with it. But that’s fun too.

Bucky is “home.” That’s love. Is it also a hint to the “sacrifices” ahead?

“Avengers 4” has officially wrapped reshoots filming for everyone, not just Chris Evans. The film is scheduled to open May 3, 2019. We’re on standby to get the official title and some kind of teaser/trailer/official photos.

  • ‘Avengers 4′ Wraps Filming: Fans Try Very, Very Hard to Decode Directors’ Image

‘Avengers 4′ Wraps Filming: Fans Try Very, Very Hard to Decode Directors’ Image

    Avengers: Infinity War
    Marvel Studios

    Avengers 4” has finished filming.

Reshoots = done. All of your favorites = done whatever they are going to do. Now post-production work kicks into high gear and continues into 2019.

But the intense fan speculation has only just begun.

It’s a good thing Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has movies planned until at least 2025. If the whole MCU ended with “Avengers 4” we’d miss the stars and characters, but we’d REALLY miss the obsessed fans.

MCU fans are a special breed — in a good way — and they tackle any clue with gusto. Sometimes they take it very seriously, sometimes they turn it into a joke. No matter what, they make the whole process fun.

The Russo Brothers understand this. They aren’t very active on social media, but when they do post something, they like it to be vague. They did this not too long ago with a black-and-white behind-the-scenes set photo, telling fans to “look hard.” They didn’t even say there were “Avengers 4” title clues involved, but fans came up with title clues anyway.

So Anthony Russo and Joe Russo decided to mark the official end of “Avengers” filming with this photo:

    https://twitter.com/Russo_Brothers/status/1050957806248054785

Those sonsofthunder knew exactly what they were doing. So fans got to work.

    https://twitter.com/sarcasm_goddess/status/1051155126885453824

Seriously. They don’t need to market the film at all. Don’t bother telling us the title. No trailer. Just keep posting random shots of crap around set and we’ll do the rest.

“Avengers 4” is currently scheduled for release May 3, 2019.

  • Is This ‘Avengers 4’ Action Figure Set Real?

Is This ‘Avengers 4’ Action Figure Set Real?

    Marvel

We still don’t have an official title for “Avengers 4,” but someone claims to have already gotten a hold of action figures for the movie. Or a prototype.

Whether it’s legit or not, the photo of the box for an action figure set of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) is generating buzz over the new white-and-black suits the characters are wearing.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BoybS8ehhw7/

If it’s the real thing, the Avengers will be wearing team suits for the first time ever. (Possibly to combat a specific environment, as Redditors pointed out. Such as the Quantum Realm.)

Cap and Tony Stark have frequently gotten suit upgrades, but can you picture them all wearing the same kind of suit?  Or maybe it’s just Thor and Rocket Raccoon, our favorite duo from “Avengers: Infinity War.”

The text on the photo of the toy box too tiny to read, but according to The Wrap, it says, “The Asgardian Thor wields the mighty Stormbreaker in his battle against his foes. Rocket teams up with a new crew to guard the galaxy against an even greater threat.” Nothing about the nifty new suits.

The truth will be revealed when “Avengers 4” is out on May 3.
