  • ‘Green Lantern Corps’ Shortlist Includes Ryan Reynolds, Tom Cruise: Report

Ryan Reynolds Honored With Star On The Hollywood Walk Of FameWill Ryan Reynolds take off the Deadpool costume to put on the Green Lantern one again?

The Wrap reports that the Golden Globe-nominated star of “Deadpool” is on a shortlist to play Hal Jordan in the DC Comics movie project “Green Lantern Corps.” Reynolds already Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern before, in 2011 (where he met his now-wife Blake Lively).

He’s joined on the shortlist by Tom Cruise, Bradley Cooper, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joel McHale, and Armie Hammer.

If that seems like a broad range of ages, that is correct. The project has been described as “‘Lethal Weapon’ in space,” with Hal Jordan teaming up with John Stewart. Hal would be the world-weary mentor, while Jon would be the young rookie superhero.

It seems improbable that Reynolds would return to the role, considering how poorly the movie fared — and especially now after the wild success and acclaim of “Deadpool.”

It’s all early rumors, though. David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes are writing the script, but no director has been hired yet. The tentative release of “Green Lantern Corps” is 2020.

  • Meet the ‘Cars 3’ Villain & Lightning McQueen’s New Trainer

Pixar’s first “Cars” movie came out 11 years ago, so it makes sense for “Cars 3” to flip the script and now show one-time rookie Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) as the struggling veteran of the track.

Entertainment Weekly just shared new photos and details on “Cars 3,” emphasizing the generation gap story of “mobile millennials vs. mid-size cars with midlife crises.” However, despite the new villain being an entitled Millennial — voiced by Armie Hammer — the new hero is also a Millennial — voiced by Cristela Alonzo.

    JACKSON STORM

CARS 3Jackson Storm (voice of Armie Hammer)Jackson Storm is fast, sleek and ready to race. A frontrunner in the next generation of racers, Stormís quiet confidence and cocky demeanor are off-puttingóbut his unmatched speed threatens to redefine the sport. Trained on high-tech simulators that are programmed to perfect technique and maximize velocity, Jackson Storm is literally built to be unbeatableóand he knows it.©2016 DisneyïPixar. All Rights Reserved.Director Brian Fee shared his take on villain Jackson Storm, leader of the new wave of tech-savvy vehicles: “Jackson was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Everything comes easy to him, and everything about him says he’s faster, so much so that we’ve designed him so that even when he’s standing next to McQueen, McQueen looks old. […] He thinks the world is his. He’s taking over. He’s owed it. […] He thinks the future of racing and the high-tech ways they train and what they can do means they’re taking the sport to a new level, and the older guys had their day, and it’s done, and they have no place in the future of racing.”

If that sounds like the ultimate Millennial cliché, fear not. Because we also have….

    CRUZ RAMIREZ

CARS 3Cruz Ramirez (voice of Cristela Alonzo)Cruz Ramirez is a sunny-but-fierce unconventional trainer at the Rust-eze Racing Center. She expertly arms the team's talented rookies with cutting-edge tools to tear up the trackóbut she nearly stalls when her longtime idol Lightning McQueen shows up. While sheíd love to help him find his way back to the top, she knows the competition is faster than ever, and victory is all about speedóor is it?©2016 DisneyïPixar. All Rights Reserved.Ramirez is Lightning McQueen’s new trainer. She’s young, like Jackson, but a lifelong fan of McQueen, described as “optimistic, sunny, fierce, and friendly.” Fee added, “Whereas others like Jackson would look at McQueen and dump him, Cruz isn’t like that at all. She’s the most optimistic person in the world and wants to do anything to help.”

  • Armie Hammer Facts: 10 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About the ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Star

Armie Hammer has played a fairy-tale prince, a pair of litigious twins, and now he’s taking on the role of a spy alongside Henry Cavill in “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” Since Hammer tends to lead a pretty private life, there are a bunch of things about the star you might now know.

  • How a Masseur Helped Armie Hammer with His Russian Accent

    Armie Hammer on “Conan”

Many actors turn to voice coaches to perfect an accent for a role, but Armie Hammer took a less conventional route to convincingly sound Russian in “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.”

“You just go on and type into YouTube ‘Russian,’” he tells Conan O’Brien Wednesday on “Conan.” “Of course, if you spend that long on YouTube, you end going down a deep wormhole. You end up on weird videos and it’s no good.”

During the “Social Network” star’s research on the website, he found a familiar face—and voice—in a massage therapist he previously worked with who had instructional massage videos. Hammer studied the masseur’s voice to portray a Cold War era spy in “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.”

“He’s just a character,” he says. “He has such a beautiful old Russian accent.”

The 28-year-old thought he mastered the accent, especially after a Russian journalist told him it was “too bad,” but his attitude didn’t play well in the actual country when he visited.

“I’m a happy guy, I smile a lot,” he explains. In Russia, though, he noticed nobody was smiling back, so he asked a bodyguard who was native to the land what the issue was. The bodyguard’s response, according to Hammer: “If you smile too much, people think you have a bad brain.”

  • Best of Late Night TV: Simon Pegg’s Drunk Ron Weasley, Jimmy Kimmel Shames Cecil the Lion’s Killer

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

This one is for all the Cecil fans — actually, it’s for all animal fans who can’t understand the appeal of hunting for fun. On Tuesday night, Jimmy Kimmel actually got emotional when weighing in on the killing of Cecil the Lion, which is not funny, and he did not treat it as such. He shamed the guy who killed Cecil in an epic sport hunting takedown. “Is it that difficult for you to get an erection that you have to kill things? If that’s the case, they have a pill for that, it works great. Just stay home and swallow it and you save yourself a lifetime of being the most hated man in America who never advertised JELL-O Pudding on television.” BOOM. Slay, Jimmy. However, he emphasized that he’s not against hunting to eat or to keep the animal population healthy or if it’s part of your culture, but that doesn’t apply to some dentist who just wants to collect a lion’s head as a trophy so he can brag to his d-bag friends. Stay for the end of the video where Jimmy issues his call to action. You’re a good egg, Jimmy Kimmel. Respect + 100 for this.

The great Simon Pegg was on “The Tonight Show,” following his fellow “Mission: Impossible” star Tom Cruise, who was there Monday night. Simon said Tom pranked him for two straight days while they were filming a car scene (which Tom drove himself, naturally). Tom kept sneakily heating his car seat in the already hot Morocco weather. It turned into a seat-warming prank war, and when you watch the movie you might be able to spot Simon turning on Tom’s seat warmer since he did it while they were filming. Great story.

If you can believe it, this Friday (July 31) is Harry Potter’s 35th birthday, so Drunk Ron Weasley (Simon Pegg) returned to talk about his “Fifty Shades of Ginger,” chug some Jack Daniel’s, give himself 10 points to Gryffindor, chant “Weasley Is Our King,” and cry for a while ’cause Hermione left him for Viktor Krum again. You can’t blame her for wanting more, man. Step up your game. Drunk Ron Weasley was on “The Tonight Show” for Harry’s birthday before, do you remember?

Here’s Simon answering fans’ “Would You Rather” questions:

And because we’re obsessed, here’s another Simon Pegg video, with Simon discussing how he’s co-writing the script for the 13th “Star Trek” sequel:

Danny DeVito was also on “The Tonight Show” and he and Fallon played Inflatable Flip Cup. Jimmy kept laughing at Danny, who told Fallon “When this is over, I’m gonna kick your ass.” Danny also talked about working on “Taxi” and explained that he nailed his audition for the classic TV role by insulting the script.

Have you been watching the great new show “Another Period” on Comedy Central? Actress Natasha Leggero is one of the main stars and here she is on Kimmel, discussing the first season.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” did a classic street bit where they asked passers-by if they had any nude pictures of themselves on their phones. Jimmy had the audience guess first, whether it was yes or no. This kind of thing can get creepy fast.

Speaking of nude photos, Armie Hammer (there to promote his new movie “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”) was also on JKL and he just recently accidentally showed some nude photos to his hairstylist when trying to show off cute pics of his daughter.

Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner were on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and talked about playing versions of themselves in the new Hulu show “Difficult People.” Seth plays a gay prostitute in one episode — they showed a photo, he just looks like a preppy college kid and kept his wedding ring on. Fred Armisen, Martin Short, Kate McKinnon, and Kathie Lee Gifford also have roles on the Hulu show. Amy Poehler is one of the producers and they talked about working with her.

Trevor Noah, Odette Annable, and “Monty Python” hero Eric Idle were on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” Here’s Trevor Noah talking about how he got the call to replace Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show.” Big shoes, man. Huge.

  • New ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Trailer Amps Up the Sexy Spy Action

The first trailer for the Henry Cavill/Armie Hammer spy movie “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” was pretty awesome, but this new one is downright groovy, baby.

Based on the TV show from the 1960s, and set in the early ’60s, the movie follows a CIA agent (Cavill) and a KGB operative (Hammer) in a joint mission against a mysterious criminal organization working to proliferate nuclear weapons. Sex appeal is provided by the leading men, natch, but also Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Debicki as shown in the trailer, Plus, it looks like Hugh Grant will be back in action with some pithy one-liners. Missed that from him.

All in all, Guy Ritchie‘s movie looks pretty promising — or maybe the trailers are just that good. But it looks like “U.N.C.L.E.” might have the right mix of action, humor, intrigue, randy innuendo, and (so important in a movie like this) bromance.

    Check it out:

  • ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Trailer: Henry Cavill & Armie Hammer Unite (VIDEO)

    the man from U.N.C.L.E.
The first trailer for director Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of 1960s TV series “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” is finally here, and based on the slick-looking clip, it seems that the long-gestating project was worth the wait.

Henry Cavill stars as CIA agent Napolean Solo and Armie Hammer plays KGB operative Illya Kuryakin, two wildly different men who nevertheless team up to take down a shady organization with Nazi ties that’s hellbent on threatening the globe with a nuclear device. Unfortunately, like the series, the flick is set during the height of the Cold War — and neither man can stand the other.

As Solo puts it, “Things could get a little messy” with all that tension, and as we see in the trailer, they certainly do. But despite Solo and Kuryakin’s claims that they both work better alone, the pair is inevitably destined to unite for the greater good.

“The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” also stars Hugh Grant, Jared Harris, Elizabeth Debicki, and Alicia Vikander. It hits theaters on August 14.

  • Watch the Swinging, Spy-Filled First Trailer for ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’

man from uncle trailerThis weekend’s “Kingsman: The Secret Service” might be the first big spy movie of 2015, but it’s far from the last. This August, Warner Bros will unleash “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” based on the television series that ran for more than a hundred episodes from 1965 – 1968 (to tell you what a technologically trippy period this was, the first season’s episodes were in black-and-white, the rest in color). This new version retains the period setting but seems to be ruder and more action-packed. Would you expect anything less from director Guy Ritchie?

In the new “Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” Henry Cavill (summoning considerable more charm than he ever exhibited in “Man of Steel”) plays Napoleon Solo, an American secret agent forced to partner with a Russian agent named Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer, forever the handsome straight man). Hugh Grant and Jared Harris are British agents and the almost painfully adorable Alicia Vikander seems to be the woman who shares both of their affections.

The action seems typically Guy Ritchie-y, with frantic bouts of super sped up stuff complemented by the achingly slow motion, but the energy seems solid and the period setting certainly does a lot to pile on the charm. It will be interesting to see Ritchie tackle something that isn’t exclusively British-centered, but coming off the two biggest hits of his directorial career with his two “Sherlock Holmes” movies, it’s fair to say that he’s taking the material seriously and will deliver in a big way.

Watching the trailer, though, it’s hard not to think of the original version of “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” which was to be the last theatrical film from genius director Steven Soderbergh, with George Clooney in the Napoleon Solo role and featuring a score from David Holmes, based on a script by Scott Z. Burns (“Side Effects”). Ah, what could have been…
