    Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’ to Star Ansel Elgort as Tony

    The more we learn about Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” adaptation, the surer we are that something’s coming, something good.

    The latest on the “West Side Story” front is that the movie musical’s male lead, Tony, has been found. Ansel Elgort has signed on to play the role in the film, Deadline reports. His character is part of a tragic love story involving a deadly rivalry between two street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks.

    There are more roles still to be cast, including that of Maria, Tony’s forbidden love. We’re awaiting those announcements, but in the meantime, the addition of Elgort is a big one. He previously starred in 2017’s “Baby Driver” and was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor — Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

    Spielberg is directing the film and Tony Kushner wrote the script, adapting the 1957 musical, which itself is inspired by “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare. Broadway choreographer Justin Peck has also joined the project.

    “West Side Story” is expected to kick off production next summer.

  • ‘Baby Driver’ Star Ansel Elgort Will Drive Through the Bomb Cyclone Snowstorm for You, Baby

    As the east coast and the northeast take a wintry pounding this week from the so-called “bomb cyclone,” one star has assured fans that he’s ready and willing to help them weather the snowstorm: “Baby Driver” actor Ansel Elgort.

    The titular star of last summer’s action flick proved he’s just as nimble behind the wheel as his onscreen alter ego (in a parking lot, anyway) in a new video posted to his Twitter feed. The short clip features a grinning Elgort gunning the engine of what appears to be the same car (or a very similar one) that he drove in the breathtaking opening sequence of the Edgar Wright film.

    In his tweet, the actor offered to help out anyone who needed some assistance traveling in the wintry weather.

    “Nyc snowstorm no worries baby will give u a ride,” Elgort captioned the video, which features the star performing several stunts in a snow-covered lot.

    We wouldn’t mind hopping into the actor’s cherry red Subaru WRX — provided he has some working seatbelts, of course. Those spins and skids don’t exactly look like the smoothest way to travel. At least he’s guaranteed to be blasting a killer soundtrack, though.

  • Edgar Wright Considering Writing Sequel to ‘Baby Driver’

    Baby number two?

    Edgar Wright, the writer and director of “Baby Driver,” is considering penning a sequel to the film. He told Empire’s podcast that Sony has approached him about a follow-up, and though Wright has never made a sequel to any of his films (“Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz”), he just may do it.

    “The studio have asked me to think about writing a sequel and it is one of the ones that I might do a sequel to because I think there’s somewhere more to go with it in terms of the characters,” Wright said.

    The movie has debuted to critical and commercial success, so naturally, Sony wants more.

    So, what could “Baby Driver 2: Electric Boogaloo” be about? Perhaps it would feature Baby (Ansel Elgort) climbing the criminal ladder.

    “I sort of have an idea that if you did another [film] you would subvert his involvement in the crime in a different way so he’s not the apprentice anymore,” Wright explained.

    Baby’s all grown up!
