With the most recent entry of ‘The Conjuring’ cinematic horror franchise, ‘Last Rites’, delivering giant box office results, you knew there was going to be more.

What’s the story of the ‘Conjuring’ TV series?

There are few details available about the show right now, though Variety’s report mentions that the show will continue some aspect of the ‘Conjuring’ storyline.

Whether that means any appearances of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, the main characters (based on real-life supernatural investigators) remains to be seen, but we can imagine the show exploring its own corner of the universe.

There is, let’s not forget other avenues the show could exploit, including ‘The Nun’ and ‘Annabelle’ movie spin-off timelines, but chances are it’ll plough its own row.

The movie series’ Peter Safran remains onboard as an executive producer, with James Wan’s Atomic Monster company also producing. Wan, of course, launched the movie series with 2013’s ‘The Conjuring’.

Also hired for the show were writers Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires, who have Marvel shows and other genre work on their resumes.

What other movie spin-offs are headed to HBO Max?

Alongside the ‘Conjuring’ show, fellow horror franchise ‘It’ has its own spin-off hitting HBO Max starting October 26th called ‘IT: ‘Welcome to Derry’. It’s a prequel set in the 1960s.

And while it’s not strictly a spin-off from an existing movie, superhero series ‘Lanterns’ is part of the DC Studios universe and will include appearances from Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, whose character was introduced in ‘Superman’.

When will the ‘Conjuring’ series be on HBO Max?

Since it’s at such an early stage, there is no information yet on when the show might hit the streaming service.

  • ‘Lullaby’ Interview: Oona Chaplin Talks New Horror Movie

    uh6vr60g

Opening in select theaters and On Demand December 16th is the new horror movie ‘Lullaby,’ which was directed by John R. Leonetti (‘Annabelle’).

The film stars Oona Chaplin as Rachel, a new mother who discovers a lullaby in an ancient book and regards the song as a blessing. But her world transforms into a nightmare when the lullaby brings forth the ancient demon Lilith (Kira Guloien). Ramon Rodriguez (‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’) also stars as Rachel’s husband, John.

Actress Oona Chaplin was born into acting royalty as she is the daughter of actress Geraldine Chaplin, granddaughter of legendary filmmaker Charlie Chaplin, and the great-granddaughter of playwright Eugene O’Neil.

Chaplin is probably best known for her role as Talisa Maegyr on HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones,’ and will be seen in the upcoming sequels for James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ currently entitled ‘Avatar 3’ and ‘Avatar 4.’

Moviefone recently had the pleasure of speaking with Oona Chaplin about her work on ‘Lullaby,’ how she got involved in the project, her character, and the legend of Lilith, as well as working with Ramon Rodriguez, director John R. Leonetti, and a baby that won’t cry.

You can read the full interview below or click on the video player above to watch our interviews with Chaplin and director John R. Leonetti.

Moviefone: To begin with, how did you get involved with this project and what was your first reaction to the screenplay?

Oona Chaplin: Well, John Leonetti actually reached out to me, which I found extremely flattering and wonderful. We met up in Toronto and talked about the script. Then I think the reason that it appealed to me was a number of things, but the main thing was this mother’s love, and the lengths to which a mother will go to take care of her baby.

That journey is really beautiful, especially with this person who is coming from a very successful career. She knows what to do, she’s got everything under control, and then she completely loses control because she invites life into this world and then there’s no stopping the baby from crying. So, it’s like this person that’s got everything all set suddenly being challenged with the most natural process in the world that she can’t handle and then that gets taken away from her. It was an interesting piece.

MF: Every new parent fears for the safety of their child, can you talk about how being a new mother affects Rachel and your approach to playing her?

OC: I have never had the experience and I hope to God that I never needed to deal with it, but I imagine that losing a child is the most horrible thing that can happen to a person. It takes a lot to recover from it. But I think the fact that the child isn’t lost, that it is just taken somewhere else is easier, I think.

MF: Your character spends most of the film either exhausted or in complete fear. What was the mood on set and was it difficult to keep those emotions going while you were shooting?

OC: It’s very tiring and it’s also really fun. It’s only fun because of the people really. The people make it fun. I was blessed with the most beautiful group of people to make this film. It was just so chipper in between the takes, even though the takes were very horrible, and we were just finding moments to laugh with one another in between the horrible horror moments. So, that makes it easier.

But it was very, very exhausting. My nervous system was completely shot. I think that’s one of the great gifts that John gives, is he’s not relying on CGI. So, he wants everything to happen right there. So, that for me was like, let’s do this, because it really stretches your imagination and it stretches your emotional resilience.

MF: Can you talk about Rachel and John’s marriage, and what it was like working with Ramon Rodriguez?

OC: Ramon and I clicked instantly. It was on Zoom and it was more like we spoke about relationships and in that conversation, within the first two minutes, I just thought, we think about things in a really similar way. We’re going to get along just great. This is going to be really easy. We can totally go. So, that made things very pleasant.

Then I feel like the trust, it’s very difficult to trust other people when you don’t trust yourself. I think that in fact it’s impossible. I think that what happens is that Rachel finds herself not trusting herself, and she’s not used to that. So, therefore in that place, she can’t trust John. She can’t trust anything.

So, until she finds that trust within herself again, and it happens in the film, then she’s working with John and they’re in tandem again. I don’t know if the writers did that on purpose, but it was a really astute analysis of relationship. Because it’s what it’s like. If you don’t trust yourself, there’s no way you’re going to trust anyone else.

(L to R) Ramon Rodriguez and Oona Chaplin star in director John R. Leonetti’s ‘Lullaby.’

MF: Can you talk about the challenges of acting opposite a baby?

OC: It was challenging because the babies were so well behaved and they were having the time of their life, and the baby’s are supposed to be crying the whole time in the film. They wouldn’t cry! They were just smiling, super chill and fascinated by the camera and playing with my face. They were so adorable. It was like, how am I going to make this baby cry?

So, I’m trying to hide his head away from the camera. The parents were there. They were so sweet. The parents, they were such a beautiful family and we were so blessed to have gotten to be with them in that time. But yeah, the babies were just having the time of their lives.

MF: Lilith is based on an actual character from the Talmud, can you talk about how she is depicted in the film?

OC: I think that it’s really handy that she has that horrible hag doing her dirty work, because they make a really good duo. Then Lilith, for me, for the movie as the Boogeyman, it was just great because she’s super beautiful, but really spooky, mesmerizing and enchanting. But then if you look at the real Lilith myth, I feel like they didn’t quite do her justice. It’s like we get to explain in the movie, there’s a lot that happened to this woman.

MF: Finally, what was your experience like working with director John R. Leonetti?

OC: Working with John was great. He’s extremely nice and that was very confusing to me because he makes such scary films. I was a little bit nervous because he’s created so much horror, and then he’s so lovely. As I said, I really admire his conviction of making things that are right there on the set without having to lean too heavily on fancy computer stuff.

  • James Wan’s New Horror Film Casts ‘Annabelle’ Star Annabelle Wallis

James Wan’s New Horror Film Casts ‘Annabelle’ Star Annabelle Wallis

    Showtime

For his next horror movie, James Wan is pulling a familiar face from his “Conjuring” universe.

The director has cast Annabelle Wallis (“Annabelle”) to star in the top-secret project, which he is making ahead of “Aquaman 2.”

Wallis starred as Mia Form, who is given the demonic doll at the center of “Annabelle,” a spinoff of “The Conjuring” films.

She also recently starred in “The Loudest Voice,” Showtime’s limited series about Fox News founder Roger Ailes, as former Fox News staffer Laurie Luhn.

Wan set this untitled thriller for New Line Cinema in a bit of a surprise move, since many expected that his next film would be  the sequel to his blockbuster movie “Aquaman.”

Wan broke out in the horror genre with 2004’s “Saw.” Since then, he has remained a producer in that franchise, helped create the “Insidious”/”Conjuring” universe, and helmed “Furious 7.”

He’s also busy overseeing the “Conjuring” franchise and recently signed up to direct Amazon’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” series.

New ‘Annabelle’ Trailer Warns She’s Coming for Your Soul

    Warner Bros.

Annabelle wants a soul and what Annabelle wants, she gets.

A new “Annabelle Comes Home” trailer is here to fuel more of our nightmares in what’s turning out to be the summer of demonic dolls (there’s also Chucky in the new “Child’s Play”).

The newest entry in the “Conjuring” franchise takes place after Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) have acquired the doll and locked it up in a room filled with the evil, possessed items they’ve vanquished over the years.

But when they go out for the night, their daughter and two babysitters get overly curious about what’s in the room. Not-a-spoiler alert: Nothing good!

This Annabelle is the Queen Bee-deviler of them all, as she rounds up all the other creepy toys in a terrifying team-up. It seems like this film is setting up other spinoffs in the franchise by featuring glimpses of other evil items/icons, like Ferry Man, a creepy monkey toy, and even haunted coins.

“Annabelle Comes Home” opens in theaters June 28.

What happens when you unlock a room full of items that are haunted, cursed, or used in some kind of ritualistic practice?

That’s what three dumb kids find out in the first trailer for “Annabelle Comes Home,” the third in the demonic doll franchise. It’s the first to take place after Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) acquire the doll.

The movie brings together the entire “Conjuring” universe, since the Warrens have a locked-up room filled with the evil, possessed items they’ve vanquished over the years.

But when they go out for the night, their daughter and two babysitters get overly curious about what’s in the room. Not-a-spoiler alert: Nothing good!

    Warner Bros.

    Hello, Demonic Dolly.

“Annabelle” and “The Conjuring” universe mastermind James Wan has shared a first look image from “Annabelle Comes Home,” the third entry in the creepy doll franchise.

In the caption, the “Aquaman” director teased, “OK, maybe she has snuck cameos in my other recent films (which I won’t confirm or deny), BUT… she’ll very definitely be up front and center on this one!”

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BvcqVeDgObF/?utm_source=ig_embed

“Annabelle Comes Home” follows 2014’s “Annabelle” and 2017’s “Annabelle: Creation,” both of which were prequels to the first “Conjuring” movie (which Wan directed).

But the new film — directed by Gary Dauberman, who wrote the first two “Annabelle” installments — picks up right after Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) encounter the terrifying doll for the first time. The Warrens make an appearance, but go away for the night, leaving their 10-year-old daughter Judy (Mckenna Grace) with babysitters Mary Ellen (Madison Iseman) and Daniela (Katie Sarife).

They’re in for an unholy night of horror when Annabelle awakens the evil spirits in Warrens’ room of artifacts.

“Annabelle Comes Home” opens June 28.

New ‘Annabelle 3’ Teaser Reveals Official Title

    Annabelle
    Warner Bros.

A new teaser trailer released today reveals the official name for “Annabelle: Chapter 3.” It’s “Annabelle Comes Home.”

It’s set after supernatural investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) bring the possessed doll back to their house. “The Haunting of Hill House” star Mckenna Grace joins the cast as their young daughter, Judy.

Gary Dauberman, who wrote the first two “Annabelle” movies, will make his directorial debut with the third installment.

The Warrens are under the impression that their artifact room, where they keep all the haunted curios from their cases, will neutralize the evil doll. But, as Dauberman said at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, “Of course, it turns out [Annabelle] can also wreak havoc there. And she really awakens the evil within that room and they target the Warrens’ 10-year-old daughter, Judy.”

“Annabelle basically activates all the other haunted artifacts in that room,” said producer James Wan. “So, it’s basically ‘Night at the Museum,’ with Annabelle!”

Ben Stiller and monkey not included.

  • ‘Annabelle 3’ to Feature ‘The Conjuring’ Stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga

‘Annabelle 3’ to Feature ‘The Conjuring’ Stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga

    Warner Bros.

At long last, the Warrens are crossing over into the “Annabelle” series.

Deadline reports that “The Conjuring” stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga— who play paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in the horror flicks — have officially signed on to appear in “Annabelle 3.” It’s the first time the characters will appear in the film series about the possessed doll, which itself is a spinoff of the “Conjuring” movies.

According to Deadline, the Warrens will only be appearing in supporting roles in the film. No other details about their involvement were released. The third “Annabelle” flick — which doesn’t have an official title yet — is set to revolve at least in part around the Warrens’ young daughter, who will be played by “Gifted” star Mckenna Grace.

Here’s the threequel’s synopsis, per Deadline:

‘Annabelle 3,’ the sixth title in ‘The Conjuring’ franchise, picks up with the Warrens bringing the Annabelle doll to a place where she can no longer wreak havoc: their Artifacts Room. Annabelle awakens the room’s evil which sets its sights on a new target: the Warrens’ ten year old daughter Judy. The young girl along with her babysitter (Judy’s teenage cousin) and cousin’s friend square off against the evil doll.

“Annabelle 3” took over the release date slot that was previously held by “The Conjuring 3.” There’s still no word on when that latter flick will be coming out (production may begin next year), but at least fans will be able to catch up with the Warrens next summer after all.

Look for Ed and Lorraine and “Annabelle 3” in theaters on July 3, 2019.

  • ‘Gifted’ Star Mckenna Grace Headlining ‘Annabelle 3’

‘Gifted’ Star Mckenna Grace Headlining ‘Annabelle 3’

    Fox Searchlight

Mckenna Grace, whose films include “Gifted” and “I, Tonya,” will star in the third, as-yet-untitled “Annabelle” film.

The 12-year-old will play Judy, the daughter of psychic investigators the Warrens. According to Deadline, two of Judy’s babysitters will also figure prominently in the plot.

Gary Dauberman, who wrote the scripts for “It” and “The Nun,” wrote the screenplay and will make his directorial debut with the sixth film in the “Conjuring” universe.

At Comic-Con, he told Deadline, “It really picks up with the Warrens bringing Annabelle to the place where it can no longer wreak havoc, which is their artifact room. But, of course, it turns out she can also wreak havoc there.”

James Wan described it as “‘Night At The Museum‘ with Annabelle,” which leads us to suspect that more haunted objects than Annabelle will come into play.

It’s not confirmed yet whether Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will reprise their roles as Lorraine and Ed Warren.

Judy was played by now 14-year-old Sterling Jerins in “The Conjuring” and “The Conjuring 2.”

The movie starts shooting next month for a release date of July 3, 2019.

Grace also stars in the upcoming Netflix horror series “The Haunting of Hill House” and plays the young Carol Danvers in “Captain Marvel.”
