‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ Is Being Adapted Into a Stage Musical

Hey, if “Mean Girls” can do it…

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” came out in 2005 as an adaptation of Ann Brashares’ 2001 novel. Stars Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrara, Blake Lively, and Alexis Bledel returned for the 2008 sequel, and a third film is said to be in the works.

But now a stage musical is coming too.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Alcon Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment announced that Tony-winning producer Scott Delman (“Mean Girls”) and his Blue Spruce Productions have acquired the live theatrical rights for the property. The stage adaptation will be based on the films (as opposed to the novels, apparently), following four best friends who share a magical pair of pants.

No further details have been shared at this point. They’ll probably cast newbies as teen characters, but it would be so amazing to see the four original stars — now in their 30s — reunite both for a third movie and for the stage musical. We can dream.

  • See ‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ Stars Gather for Adorable Pregnancy Photo

“Sisterhood of the Traveling *Maternity* Pants,” assemble!

You probably saw America Ferrera’s sweet New Year’s announcement that she and husband Ryan Piers Williams are expecting their first child together. America is the last of the four original “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” stars to get pregnant, and they all gathered to celebrate her impending arrival.

Here’s what costars Amber Tamblyn and America Ferrera posted:

Their movie came out in 2005, with a sequel in 2008, and they are still close friends, regularly getting together like this. That is beautiful.

Yeah, maybe just give a third “Sisterhood” film that maternity title and let’s roll.

The “Sisterhood” stars are all in their 30s now, with thriving careers and growing families: Alexis Bledel, 36, has one child with husband Vincent Kartheiser; Blake Lively, 30, has two kids with Ryan Reynolds; Amber Tamblyn, 34, has one child with husband David Cross; and now America, 33, is pregnant with her first child.

  • America Ferrera Offers Hope for ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3’

Human Rights Campaign's 2017 Los Angeles Gala Dinner - ArrivalsThe “Sisterhood” is alive and well! America Ferrera has renewed hope for a third “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” movie.

At last night’s Human Rights Campaign gala, where the LGBT rights group honored her with the Ally For Equality Award, Ferrera told E! News that making another movie with co-stars Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, and Amber Tamblyn would be “amazing.”

“It’s an idea and a conversation,” she said. “I love my girls. We’re very much a part of each other’s lives and if the movie happens it would be a great thing.”

The first “Sisterhood” came out in 2005, with the sequel following in 2008. It’s been nearly a decade, but the four actresses remain close friends.

“What’s wonderful about these girls in my life is, people expect girls and women to be competitive, and we made a decision to love and support each other off-screen and onscreen,” she said.

“We would love to get paid to hang out with each other. That would wonderful.”

  • ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3’ Is in the Works, According to Alexis Bledel

Actress got fans excited this summer when she hinted that a third installment of the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” series could happen some day, and now, another one of the titular stars of the film says plans to revive the franchise are indeed in the works.

The Tonight Show” this week, telling host Jimmy Fallon that “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3” is a very real possibility.“We would all love to do it,” Bledel said, adding that Lively, , and were all on board, too. “I think it would be so much fun, and we talk about it. … I think we should absolutely do it. We’re working on it. So we’ll see if it happens.”

“You’re working on it?” a hopeful Fallon interjected.

“Yeah, we’re working on it,” Bledel confirmed. “It would be so fun!”

We certainly agree with that assessment. And considering a chunk of the action in the last film, “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2,” took place in Greece, we think the actresses would be more than willing to sign up for more.

Lively said back in June that all four of the stars wanted to make sure that the story made sense before moving forward. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that there are additional developments on the threequel’s progress soon.

  • Gina Rodriguez Reacts to America Ferrera Golden Globes Mix-Up: ‘Who Cares?’

Moet & Chandon Celebrates The Launch Of The Moet Moment Film Festival CompetitionJane the Virgin,” and she’s proven she’s a class act in real life, too. The actress was accidentally mixed up with America Ferrera during the announcement of the Golden Globes nominations on Thursday (the official Globes Twitter account used Rodriguez’s handle when identifying presenter Ferrera), but instead of getting upset, Rodriguez just laughed it off.

“I didn’t hear anything until recently someone sent me an article, but who cares?” Rodriguez said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, adding some love for her fellow Latina actress.

“America’s lovely,” Rodriguez told ET. “She’s so beautiful and such a fantastic actress. If there’s anybody I want to get mixed up with — it’s her for sure!”

We’re glad Rodriguez took the stupid goof-up in stride, and that she’s not letting a silly Twitter mistake mar her nomination celebration. The star, who also took home the Best Actress in a TV Comedy award from the Globes earlier this year for her work on “Jane,” shared her joy on Twitter, and also released a statement noting that there were actually a couple causes for cheer.

“Today two fantastic things happened,” Rodriguez’s statement said. “My work on ‘Jane’ was recognized and celebrated by some of my favorite people for a second year. And my student loans from the university that taught me to act were paid off. Education works, how serendipitous.”

Congrats to Rodriguez on all her success — both in acting and in life in general.

  • Dear Golden Globes, Gina Rodriguez and America Ferrera Are Two Different People

73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards Nominations AnnouncementD’oh! Add another awkward incident to the file of Celebrities Mistaken For Other Celebrities. The latest oopsie happened this morning during the 2016 Golden Globe Award nominations announcement, when “Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez was listed as one of the celebs reading off the nominees … when it was really “Ugly Betty” alum America Ferrera. Well, we all make mistakes.

The gaffes were tweeted out by the official Golden Globe Awards account, and even copied to Gina Rodriguez, before being deleted. Here are two screenshots:

For the record, this is Gina Rodriguez:

Moet & Chandon Celebrates The Launch Of The Moet Moment Film Festival CompetitionIt’s always kinda sad, but also kinda funny, when these things happen. “Quantico” star Priyanka Chopra was recently confused with another Indian pageant winner and tweeted that “all brown people don’t look the same.” But it happens to ginger people, too: There was even a song made for Bryce Dallas Howard to let her emphasize “I Am Not Jessica Chastain,” and “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner had to tweet to E! that she was not the red-headed actress they had identified on TV.

Hollywood just likes to cast spare celebs. For example, if (heaven forbid) something were to happen to Javier Bardem, they have Jeffrey Dean Morgan on standby. Same for Tom Hardy and Jai Courtney, etc.

  • America Ferrera Thanks Donald Trump in Scathing Open Letter

Entertainment Weekly And PEOPLE Celebrate The New York Upfronts - ArrivalsWhile Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump continues to spout controversial comments about Latino immigrants, one entertainer of Latina descent says she’s grateful that Trump has spoken his mind.

Actress Ugly Betty” and the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” movies, penned an open letter to Trump in the Huffington Post, and thanked him for his inflammatory remarks. Why? Because those statements have energized millions of Latino voters, Ferrera said — and they’re planning on firing Trump come election day.

” … I heard what you said about the kind of people you think Latino immigrants are — people with problems, who bring drugs, crime and rape to America,” Ferrara wrote. ” … What you just did with your straight talk was send more Latino voters to the polls than several registration rallies combined! Thank you for that. … Remarks like yours will serve brilliantly to energize Latino voters and increase turnout on election day against you and any other candidate who runs on a platform of hateful rhetoric.”

Ferrera went on to say that Latinos are the fastest-growing constituency in the country, with their numbers swelling by over 49 percent from 2002-2012. That’s a huge group of potential voters that Trump has just alienated, the actress noted, and that’s all the better for those voters’ interests. She writes:

Thank you for reminding us that there remains an antiquated and endangered species of bigots in this country that we must continue to combat. Thank you for reminding us to not sit complacently at home on election day, but to run to the polls and proclaim that there is no place for your brand of racial politicking in our government. Thank you for sending out the rallying cry.

You have made your thoughts on the Latino community clear and you continue to stand by them. And in return, we will do more than tweet about our indignation and beat piñatas of your likeness. We will silence you at the polls. We will vote and use our growing position in U.S. politics. Our fellow Americans who understand and value our contributions will join us. We know there is nothing that scares you more.

No word yet on what Trump has to say about Ferrera’s comments, though he may insist that she stole his idea of writing open letters. Read the actress’s entire letter over at the Huffington Post.
