  • George Clooney and Wife Amal Clooney Expecting Twins: Report

MPTF Celebrates 95th Anniversary With 'Hollywood's Night Under The Stars' - InsideThere must be something in celebrities’ water: One week after Beyonce announced she was pregnant with twins, a new report is claiming that George Clooney and wife Amal Alamuddin Clooney are also expecting two bundles of joy.

CBS daytime show “The Talk” is claiming the exclusive on this story, with co-host Julie Chen announcing the news on Thursday’s show.

“Beyonce is not the only superstar expecting twins — congratulations are [also] in order for George and Amal Clooney,” Chen revealed, as the studio audience erupted into gasps, cheers, and applause. She continued:

“The Talk” has confirmed that the 55-year-old superstar and his highly-accomplished 39-year-old attorney wife are expecting twins. … What we did find out — that no one else is reporting — is that the twins are due this June.

There’s been no official comment on the news from the couple yet, though People, considered the gold standard in celeb gossip, reports that it also has confirmed that Alamuddin Clooney is pregnant. The outlet writes:

Amal “has let everyone in both families know quietly,” says a source close to the couple. “They’re all very happy.”

Clooney and Alamuddin Clooney began dating in late 2013, and tied the knot in a private, star-studded ceremony in Venice in September 2014. Alamuddin Clooney is primarily based in London, where she works as an international human rights lawyer.

Congrats to the soon-to-be family of four!

  • George Clooney Says His Proposal to Wife Amal Was ‘Horrible’

US-ENTERTAINMENT-PREMIERE-HAIL, CAESAR!George Clooney was a confirmed bachelor before his wife, Amal Alamuddin Clooney, came along, and now, the actor is spilling the beans about how he proposed. Unfortunately, Clooney said, the romantic gesture was a bit of a disaster.

The Oscar winner chatted with Ellen DeGeneres about the night he got down on one knee, revealing that the pair had been dating for about six months when he knew that he’d found the one. But when it came time to pop the question, the actor said things didn’t go exactly as planned.

“It was one of those horrible moments [because] we didn’t talk about it,” Clooney confessed. “It wasn’t like ‘Oh, maybe we should get married’ or anything. I plotted the whole thing out.”

That plot included cooking his beloved a fancy dinner and playing a song by his aunt, Rosemary Clooney, called “Why Shouldn’t I.” The actor had hidden the ring in a box behind Alamuddin.

“I’ve got it all set up, timed out, and the song is coming, and she gets up to go wash the dishes, which she’s never done,” Clooney told DeGeneres.

The actor said he redirected Alamuddin, telling her he blew out the candle and asking her to get the lighter box.

“And she reaches around and she pulls out the box and I’ve got just the ring sitting in there,” he said, “and she pulls it out and she looks at it and she’s like, ‘It’s a ring’ — like as if somebody had left it there some other time.”

Clooney said he was making some pained facial expressions in an effort to get Alamuddin to take the hint, but to no avail. Finally, he finally got down on one knee.

“[I] said, ‘I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life without you,’” Clooney said. “And she kept looking at the ring and she was looking at me and she was like ‘Oh my God.’ … Finally, I said, ‘Look, I hope the answer is yes, but I need an answer, ’cause I’m 52 and I could throw out my hip pretty soon.’ And then she said, ‘Oh, yes!’ So basically it worked out.

The actor said that, based on the music playlist, they now know that the whole ordeal took about 25 long, painful minutes. Thankfully, they were able to move past the awkwardness, and were married in September 2014.

“It was one of those funny things,” Clooney said of his relationship with Alamuddin, which began in late 2013. “From the minute we met, we just hit it off and from the minute we met we sort of felt like we were gonna be together.”

  • Steep Fines Greet Gawkers at George Clooney’s Italian Villa

View of George Clooney's Italian house,
Gawking at George Clooney is now a crime in Laglio, Italy, where the Oscar winner owns a villa on Lake Como.

Laglio mayor Roberto Pozzi told the Associated Press that he’s issued an ordinance to raise fines to as much as 500 euros (about $550 USD) “for those who create ‘problems of public order’ when gathering to gawk on the main road behind the villa or approach by boat closer than 100 meters (110 yards) offshore.” According to Pozzi, the fines, now five times higher than they were in the past, are in place to ensure Clooney and his new bride, Amal Alamuddin Clooney, privacy when they visit Laglio.

Clooney and Alamuddin haven’t been to the villa since their September wedding in Venice, Pozzi told the AP. And according to the mayor, townspeople and tourists have generally been very respectful of the celeb’s privacy in the past.

    Per the AP:

The ordinances, posted around town, “aren’t aimed at repression,” said the mayor. “If a tourist wants to come by the villa and take a photo, that’s OK.” Instead, by raising fines, the town wants to discourage what he called “knots of people” from gathering and lingering, posing traffic dangers on the busy road.

And if you’re visiting Laglio in the off-season, you have a better chance of snagging a fine-free photo (sans Clooney, anyway): The ordinances run through September, covering only the spring and summer period when the actor typically visits the villa.

  • Golden Globe Awards 2015: Most Feminist Ever?

72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - ArrivalsJane Fonda and Lily Tomlin pretty much summed up the tone of the 2015 Golden Globe Awards when presenting the award for Best Actor In A Television Series – Comedy Or Musical. Jane quipped that it was great that men were finally getting the comedy recognition they deserved, with Lily slinging the zinger, “We can finally put to rest the negative stereotype that men aren’t funny.” Yep, they’ve come a long way, baby!

Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler set that smart-aleck tone for (cringe if you must) “feminism” and “female empowerment” from the monologue onward, as they have done in the past. But this year it felt like more presenters and winners picked up the baton, making more inspiring speeches to honor women – without making it seem like male-bashing or just empty words.

Tina and Amy joked in their monologue about the irony of George Clooney getting a lifetime achievement award as a Hollywood celebrity, when his wife Amal – a lawyer and human rights activist – has a much longer list of impressive accomplishments. (In his speech, George honored Amal, saying he was so proud to be her husband.)
72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - ShowAlso in the monologue, Amy joked that the movie “Boyhood” “proves there are still good roles for women over 40, as long as you get hired when you’re under 40.” The starring woman in question, Patricia Arquette, won the supporting actress award; in her speech she thanked director Richard Linklater for “shining a light” on her character, an underappreciated single mother, “and the many women like her, and for allowing me to honor my own mother with this incredible character.” In that case, it was acknowledged that a male writer took the time to spotlight a female character, since it’s not about men vs. women, it’s just about stories worth seeing.

Amy Adams won the best comedy or musical award for “Big Eyes,” and she thanked her actress peers for being such good role models for her 4-year-old daughter, Aviana. “You speak to her so loudly,” Amy said. “She watches everything and sees everything and I am so grateful for all of you women in this room who have such a lovely beautiful voice and are speaking to my daughter.” Maggie Gyllenhaal, who won best actress in a miniseries or TV movie for “The Honorable Woman,” also spoke out in gratitude for the influx of roles for actual women; she also gave a shout-out to her husband, actor Peter Sarsgaard, calling him “a lover of complicated women.” In her best actress in a drama speech, Julianne Moore mentioned how her film “Still Alice” was shot down originally because she was told no one wanted to see a film about a middle-aged woman. But now she’s basically the Oscar frontrunner for that lead role.

So it’s no wonder the Internet took notice when Jeremy Renner made a joke about Jennifer Lopez‘s “Golden Globes”:

It was a harmless joke overall, but it felt tacky and stale in the context of the overall event. (Then again, Renner is a dude and we know the stereotype about how they’re not that funny.)

Did you also feel a more feminist shift in this last (supposedly) Tina and Amy show, or do you feel like Tina and Fey let feminists down with a Bill Cosby joke that some considered to be “a rape joke” at the expense of rape victims?
