Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ took the box office by storm, and as the audience showed up at the movie theaters all dolled up in pink, ‘Barbie’ quickly became this summer’s movie phenomenon.

Based on the iconic doll, ‘Barbie’ takes us into Barbie Land, where we meet Margot Robbie’s Sterotypical Barbie as she begins to experience things out of her normal routine – cold showers, sour milk, thoughts of mortality, and the worst of all, flat feet. With Ken (Ryan Gosling) tagging along, Barbie sets off to seek out the answers by traveling to the real world. She soon realizes things in the real world are quite the opposite of everything she knows.

Directed by Greta Gerwig and co-written by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, the clever story and incredible visuals made ‘Barbie’ the talk of the town. The movie is certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 88% critics score and 83% audience score. Due to it sharing an opening date with Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’, movie fans took the opportunity and turned the dual release into a double-feature event, therefore kicking off the endless waves of “Barbenheimer” memes.

The official synopsis for ‘’Barbie” is below:

“To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Or you have a full-on existential crisis. Unless you’re a Ken.”

‘Barbie’ is officially the highest grossing film of 2023, having just crossed $1.3 billion globally. Opening to $162 million, the Margot Robbie-led film has earned $612 million domestically. Already an icon for many, ‘Barbie’ quickly became a social media sensation, with fans posting everything from their movie-going outfits to their Barbie collections. The film is filled with references to many Barbies and Ken dolls from various decades, sending audiences down nostalgia lane.

On the surface, ‘Barbie’ may seem like a fun adventure, much like ‘The Lego Movie’. However, the film has a deeper message and touches on the pressure of expectations, insecurities, and most importantly, what it means to be human.

    20th Century Fox

It’s an “X-Men” reunion — Alexandra Shipp, who played Storm in “Dark Phoenix,” is joining Michael Fassbender (Magneto) in “Kung Fury 2.”

Deadline reports the actress will join the cast of the film, which comes from writer/director David Sandberg. The movie will also feature Arnold Schwarzenegger and David Hasselhoff.

“Kung Fury 2” is the follow-up to Sandberg’s YouTube short, “Kung Fury.” The action-comedy is set in 1985 Miami, which is kept safe under the watchful eye of Kung Fury, the greatest cop of all time. His Thundercops are the ultimate police force assembled from across history to defeat the villainous Kung Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler.

After the tragic death of one of their members causes the group to disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel through space and time to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy, and defeat evil once and for all.

Shipp is replacing Eiza Gonzales in the film. She’ll play Rey Porter, a news anchor who will do anything to get the best story.

  • You Can’t Miss This ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Trailer (VIDEO)

The upcoming drama “Straight Outta Compton” chronicles the highs and lows of the seminal West Coast rap group N.W.A., from their troubled beginnings to their incredible fame and growing notoriety.

Newcomer O’Shea Jackson Jr. plays his real-life dad Ice Cube, alongside Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Dr. Dre and Eazy-E. Paul Giamatti plays their then-manager Jerry Heller, who co-founded Ruthless Records with Eazy-E in 1986. Ice Cube and Dr. Dre are producers on the pic, which is directed by F. Gary Gray (“Law Abiding Citizen,” “The Italian Job,” “Set It Off,” “Friday”). The supporting cast includes Alexandra Shipp, Orlando Brown, and R. Marcos Taylor as Suge Knight.

Ice Cube described their story as “an American story of not only rags to riches, but David vs. Goliath. To me, when you talk about N.W.A, you talk about non-violent protests against things that we were trying to comprehend, so we ended up putting it in song.”

“Straight Outta Compton” opens nationwide on August 14.

  • Sansa Stark Is the Latest Addition to ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

Well, there are going to be some new mutants on the block when “X-Men: Apocalypse” opens next summer. And by new mutants we mean new version of old mutants (this is getting confusing). Last night on Twitter, “X-Men: Apocalypse” director Bryan Singer announced that Alexandra Shipp will be playing Storm, Sophie Turner will be Jean Grey, and Tye Sheridan will be Cyclops. The movie will open on May 27th, 2016.

All three actors are up-and-coming stars, with Shipp having recently starred in the Lifetime “Aaliyah” movie (and since “X-Men: Apocalypse” is set in the ’80s, we hope that she rocks that awesome mohawk), while Sheridan has starred in “The Tree of Life,” “Mud,” “Joe,” and has a role in the upcoming “Scouts vs. Zombies.” Turner, of course, stars as Sansa Stark on “Game of Thrones” and has a number of buzz-worthy projects opening in the next year, including the action thriller “Barely Lethal,” with Samuel L. Jackson and Hailee Steinfeld.

These new actors will join previously established mutants Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Evan Peters (Quicksilver) and newcomer Oscar Isaac, who will play the titular baddie. Filming begins this spring. Hopefully your mutant power is patience.
