The upcoming sequel to 2018 horror hit “A Quiet Place” is making some significant changes, with one leading star bowing out of the project, and another coming in to take his place.

Deadline has the scoop that Brian Tyree Henry has had to drop out of “A Quiet Place Part II,” reportedly due to “scheduling problems.” The role was to have been “a big one,” according to the trade, though no details about the character — or the film’s overall plot — had been revealed yet.

The good news is that it doesn’t appear that there will be too much delay caused by Henry’s exit, since his replacement has already been found: Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou will be taking on the actor’s part. The film also stars returning “A Quiet Place” cast members Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, as well as series newcomer Cillian Murphy.

Writer-director John Krasinski — who also co-wrote and helmed the first flick — revealed last month that production had begun on the sequel. It’s unclear how much, if any, of the film will need to be reworked now that Hounsou has stepped in for Henry, though filmmakers have some wiggle room before the film’s release to figure things out.

“A Quiet Place Part II” is currently slated to hit theaters on March 20, 2020.

  • John Krasinski ‘A Quiet Place 2’ Has Started Filming

John Krasinski ‘A Quiet Place 2’ Has Started Filming

    Paramount

Ssshhhhh! Quiet down because “A Quiet Place 2” has started filming.

John Krasinski, who directed the smash hit first film and returns to helm the sequel, revealed the news on Twitter by posting a picture of the clapboard for scene one, take one of the movie.

“A Quiet Place” starred Blunt and John Krasinski as parents of a family who are forced to live in near-silence due to a threat from creatures who hunt by sound.

Not much is known about the sequel. Blunt is back as the star, but since her husband’s character died in the first film, he won’t be back as a cast member (unless there are flashbacks). Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe are also set to reprise their roles as their kids.

Cillian Murphy is boarding the movie as “a man with mysterious intentions who joins the family unit.” And Brian Tyree Henry may be joining the cast as well.

“A Quiet Place” was a smash success, earning over $340 million at the box office. The sequel is slated for March 20, 2020.

Brian Tyree Henry Explains Why ‘Joker’ Is Different From Previous Versions

    WB/ABC

Brian Tyree Henry, whose numerous credits include “Atlanta, “How to Get Away With Murder,” “Widows” and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” shared some info about the upcoming WB film “Joker.

Talking to Observer, he said that we’ll see more of why the Joker (Joaquin Phoenix) is the way he is:

“I think it’s going to be very different [from previous versions] because it really goes into just the origin story. Villains are never born that way, they’re made. There’s something that happens in their lives that they give up their faith in humanity; they see the flaws of humanity and mankind and feel like they must correct it. And what happens with Joker is you start to see how he really was a happy person. He really was trying to find this…hope in humanity until it broke him down and he just had to give up and reshape it.

Also, there’s going to be a connection [made] about a boy and his mother. That is another thing that you’re going to see—that he was capable of love at some point. But, at the end of the day, I think it’s all about how he was made that way, how he didn’t start being that kind of person.”

Frances Conroy is listed as playing “Penny Fleck” in the film (the Joker’s real name here is “Arthur Fleck”), so we look forward to seeing what she’ll do with the part.

The actor also talked what we can expect in the sequel to “A Quiet Place,” which he just signed onto:

I’m still trying to find that out, but I really think that what we’ll do is we’ll see more of that family continuing to survive and finding out that they’re not the only ones. And I think that we’re also going to get a few answers to the origin of where and how this whole thing happened. I think that people want to know that. But I think you’re just going to see another side of it…more of humanity that survived this thing in this next story.

“Joker” is out October 4, 2019.  “A Quiet Place 2” is set for May 15, 2020

The “Atlanta” and “If Beale Street Could Talk” star is in talks to join Emily Blunt in the horror hit’s sequel, according to The Wrap.

The first movie starred Blunt and John Krasinski as parents of a family who are forced to live in near-silence due to a threat from creatures who hunt by sound.

Krasinsk is returning to write and direct the sequel. However, since his character died in the first film, he won’t be back as a cast member.

“A Quiet Place” was a smash success, earning over $340 million at the box office. The sequel is slated for March 20, 2020.

Henry’s role has not been disclosed. Cillian Murphy is also boarding the movie as “a man with mysterious intentions who joins the family unit.” Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe are also set to reprise their roles.

‘A Quiet Place 2’ and ‘Playing With Fire’ Shift Dates After ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’s Move

    Paramount

“Sonic the Hedgehog”s bump to 2020 means a number of other films are shuffling dates as well.

Paramount just moved up “A Quiet Place 2” from May 15, 2020 to March 20, 2020, so we’re getting the horror sequel more than two months earlier than expected. It’ll now be opening up against the biopic “I Still Believe,” starring K.J. Apa as Christian music star Jeremy Camp.

The studio is also moving family comedy “Playing With Fire” into “Sonic”‘s previous slot of November 8. The movie about “a crew of rugged fighters who meet their match when attempting to rescue three rambunctious kids,” stars Judy Greer, John Cena, and John Leguizamo.

Last year, the studio’s “Instant Family” did decent business in that slot with a $14.5 million opening and $67.3 million in total domestic box office.

  • Cillian Murphy Is In Talks for ‘A Quiet Place’ Sequel

    Roadside Attractions

“Peaky Blinders” star Cillian Murphy is in talks to join Emily Blunt in the sequel to “A Quiet Place.”

Details on the plot are scarce, but Murphy will reportedly play “a man with mysterious intentions,” who joins Blunt’s character and her children.

That could mean anything from a new villain (which Murphy excels at playing), a survivor with PTSD like his soldier in “Dunkirk,” or a love interest or father figure.

Returning with Blunt from the first film are child stars Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe.

John Krasinski is writing and the sequel, but of course his character won’t be returning. (RIP)

The film is expected to start shooting this summer, with a planned release date of May 15, 2020.

Murphy currently stars as crime boss Thomas Shelby in the BBC historic drama “Peaky Blinders.” (It’s also on Netflix.)

He’s best known for playing Batman villain Jonathan Crane, (aka The Scarecrow) in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and one of the last humans alive in Danny Boyle’s zombie thriller “28 Days Later.”

Not to mention his scary turn as a psychopath in “Red Eye,” a film that made us think twice before chatting up that handsome stranger next to us on flights.

    Paramount

Can’t keep quiet about this news: John Krasinski is officially returning to direct “A Quiet Place 2,” the sequel to last year’s hit horror thriller.

Krasinski’s wife, Emily Blunt, will also return to star in the follow-up. Blunt won a SAG Award for her intense performance (which included a near-silent birth scene).

Krasinski also revealed the release date of “A Quiet Place 2” on Instagram: May 15, 2020.

Krasinski has been working on the sequel’s script with writers Bryan Woods and Scott Beck. The three received a Writers Guild nomination for the first movie’s script.

“A Quiet Place” was made on a modest budget but became a huge global hit. Krasinski and Blunt played parents protecting their family from alien monsters with extraordinary hearing. They were forced to live in near silence or be brutally killed by the aliens.

    [SPOILERS AHEAD]

The first film ended with Krasinski’s dad character dead, having sacrificed himself for his kids. After their deaf daughter figured out how to incapacitate the monsters, Blunt’s tough mom started taking them out.

But there’s still more to explore, as Krasinski told Entertainment Weekly of the sequel, “This is a world you can play in.”

“It’s actually a world, which is a whole different, very unique experience. “It’s not like ‘Alien’ or ‘Jaws’ where the main villain is the thing you’re repeating; it’s an actual entire set of rules and the circumstance that the world has undergone that you can play in very different facets.”

The sequel to the surprise hit horror film of the year still needs a script, but John Krasinski is hard at work.

The “A Quiet Place” writer, director, and star recently told Variety that he has “an idea mapped out” but noted that he’s still in the writing process.  In fact, he said that he hopes it is “good enough to shoot,” making it clear that a lot still needs to happen between now and the film being made.

Krasinski didn’t reveal any specifics about his idea, but in the past, he’s discussed possible directions for “A Quiet Place 2.” One idea that he talked about in May was potentially exploring the stories of other people who survived. During a Deadline interview at the time, he referenced a moment in the film where the audience can see fires in the distance.

“Where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire and in the distance those other fires light up,” Krasinski told Deadline. “How did those people survive? How did that old man survive?”

It’s possible those questions will be answered in Krasinski new script, but as he pointed out, this may still not be the version that gets made.

John Krasinski Confirms He’s Writing ‘A Quiet Place’ Sequel

    Paramount Pictures

After some uncertainty over whether or not he would even be involved in the movie, John Krasinski has revealed that he’s writing the sequel to this year’s horror hit “A Quiet Place” — and the process has already started.

The writer-director-actor was surprised by the film’s success when it opened back in April, previously revealing that he thought it would be a one-and-done feature. But as film fans know, nothing is ever really over in Hollywood, and a sequel was quickly greenlit.

During a Q&A in Los Angeles this week, Krasinski reiterated that thought, saying he told wife and co-star Emily Blunt that the film would be a one-time experience they shared.

“That was my intention for the movie itself,” Krasinski told the crowd. “Then I had this small idea for a sequel, but I didn’t think it would go anywhere. So, I said to the studio, ‘Just go do the movie with somebody else.’”

The studio apparently did meet with other filmmakers, but then Krasinski said that he shared “this little idea” with producer Drew Form.

“And he told me to think about it a little longer,” the director recalled. “And then I thought, ‘This might really work.’ So, I’m currently writing the sequel.”

It’s unclear if the idea Krasinski discussed with Form is the same one he alluded to back in May, but either way, it’s exciting to know that he’ll be back on board (at least in a screenwriting capacity — no word yet on whether or not he’ll also direct again). The filmmaker’s passion for the project is obvious, and which makes him the perfect person to shepherd its next installment.

“A Quiet Place 2” is currently slated to hit theaters on May 15, 2020.

    Paramount Pictures

Try not to react too loudly:  Paramount has set a release date for the sequel to “A Quiet Place.”

The upcoming horror flick will hit theaters on May 15, 2020, Deadline reports. It will follow up the original starring John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe. The film was such a box office hit that the sequel was confirmed just weeks after its April release.

Krasinski, who directed the film, is reportedly writing the sequel, and he previously shared that he has a lot of ideas for where it could go. While speaking to Deadline in May, he pointed out how there were other survivors and said it would be “interesting to see what’s going on, elsewhere at this same time.” So far, he hasn’t revealed whether or not the sequel will again center on Lee (Krasinski), Evelyn (Blunt), and the rest of the Abbott family.

At this point, there are a lot of details that remain a mystery, but at least we know the film’s release date. Be ready for more scares when “A Quiet Place 2” opens on May 15, 2020.
