Shannen Doherty Joins ‘Riverdale’ Tribute to Luke Perry

    Fox

“Riverdale’s” tribute to the late Luke Perry will feature a very special guest.

The Season 4 episode, which is scheduled to air October 9 on The CW, has enlisted Perry’s friend and former “Beverly Hills, 90210” co-star Shannen Doherty.  Titled “In Memoriam,” it will reflect on Perry’s legacy and the imprint his character, Fred Andrews, had on the show.

Perry died in March at the age of 52 after suffering a major stroke.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa announced the news at San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday. He described Doherty’s role as “very emotional.”

Perry and Doherty starred together on “90210” for four seasons. They renewed their friendship in 2015 when both were dealing with health issues.

Aguirre-Sacasa also revealed that he and Perry had been planning an appearance by Doherty for some time. It was “something that Luke wanted to happen since Season 1,” he said.

“They were such good friends, and when we were putting together this tribute episode, we wanted to make it as special as possible, and so we asked Shannen to do a pivotal, super-emotional role. She read the script and immediately said yes. It’s very impactful.”

Doherty is also starring in “BH90210,” Fox’s meta revival of the series. Most of the original cast — Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling — will play versions of themselves as they try to mount a revival of the teen soap.

Perry was not attached to the project, which was announced just before he died. “BH90210” will also honor Perry in some way.

New ‘BH90210’ Promo Hilariously Prepares to ‘Do This for Real’

“BH90210” is doing so many things right when it comes to promos.

The “Beverly Hills, 90210” reboot is coming to Fox this summer, and the network has just revealed another entertaining promo. The 45-second video reunites original stars Tori SpellingJason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, and Brian Austin Green as they prepare to “do this for real.” The way it happens is a little absurd, but it’s also perfect — pretty much everything we hope this upcoming series will be.

The show will follow the seven “90210” vets as they play heightened versions of themselves. It is based on their real lives and relationships. They’ll be joined by newcomers to the franchise as well, including La La Anthony, Vanessa Lachey, and Ivan Sergei. So far none of these newbies has appeared in any promos.

“BH90210” is already in production, and there are six episodes on the way. The premiere is set for Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

Behind-the-Scenes Staff Drama Shakes Up ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ Revival

    Fox

“BH920210,” the “Beverly Hills 90210” revival,  hasn’t even aired and there’s already drama.

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith and several senior writers just quit the series.

One source dished to Variety that the dispute was over “interference from two of the show’s lead actresses” [insert tea-sipping gif] while another source claimed the writers were unhappy with one of the executives overseeing the project.

Writer Paul Sciarrotta has been promoted to showrunner along with series’ creators Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler.

The six-episode series brings back original ’90s stars Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling., who’ll be playing “heightened” versions of themselves. (Much like Matt LeBlanc on “Episodes.”)

It’s set to debut on Fox on August 7.

“Beverly Hills, 90210” premiered on Fox in 1990 and was one of the show’s biggest hits. It ran for 10 seasons and created spinoff “Melrose Place” and the CW follow-up series “90210.”

Interest in the revival is high: The initial teaser trailer had 18.4 million views across various platforms.

  • Shannen Doherty Officially Joins ‘BH90210’

    Shannen Doherty Officially Joins ‘BH90210’

    Paramount Network

“Yes it’s official,” Shannen Doherty says about joining the “Beverly Hills 90210” revival series, which is now being called “BH90210.”

As she joked on Instagram, “The real question is…. will we still be rocking those [dated ’90s] outfits?”

She joins original cast members Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling. She, along with the rest of the cast, will executive produce the series. It’s set to air this summer on Fox.

The revival is being described as a serialized drama in which the cast will play heightened versions of themselves. The gang is reunited when (fancy that!) one of them suggests it’s time for a “Beverly Hills, 90210” reboot.

Luke Perry, who passed away on March 4, had not yet committed to the reboot due to his commitment to “Riverdale.” The Fox series is expected to pay tribute to its late actor.

Doherty played Brenda Walsh in the original Fox series which ran from 1990 to 2000. She reprised the role in guest appearances on CW’s “90210” reboot, which aired from 2008-2013.

Doherty also appeared on the short-lived “Heathers” TV series, a reboot of the 1989 cult classic in which she played one of the mean girls named Heather.

  • Luke Perry, ‘90210’ and ‘Riverdale’ Star, Dies at Age 52

Luke Perry, ‘90210’ and ‘Riverdale’ Star, Dies at Age 52

    The CW

Luke Perry, the former “Beverly Hills, 90210” heartthrob and current star of “Riverdale,” has died after suffering a stroke last week. He was 52.

Perry was hospitalized last Wednesday after a massive stroke, but never recovered.

The actor, born Coy Luther Perry III, began acting when he was 16. He started out in soap operas before becoming a household name on “90210” as the brooding bad boy Dylan McKay.

The show became a pop culture phenomenon, thanks in part to the simmering love triangle featuring Perry, Shannen Doherty, and Jennie Garth.

Coincidentally, Perry suffered the stroke just a day after Fox announced plans for a “90210” revival series featuring six original stars (Perry was not among them).

More recently, Perry was on The CW’s “Riverdale” as Fred Andrews, father of Archie Andrews.

He’ll also appear posthumously in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” as Wayne Maunder, the real-life star of the CBS Western “Lancer.”

Perry is survived by daughter Sophie and son Jack, a professional wrestler who goes by the ring name “Jungle Boy” Nate Coy.

  • ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ Revival With 6 Original Stars Coming to Fox This Summer

‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ Revival With 6 Original Stars Coming to Fox This Summer

    Fox

Fox is moving back to “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

The network has ordered a six-episode limited series that brings back original stars Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling.

They’ll play heightened versions of themselves shopping a reboot of their seminal teen drama. The actors announced the news on social media and shared an announcement video (below).

It’s unclear if any other cast members, such as Shannen Doherty or Luke Perry, will make appearances.

The project first began percolating over a year ago, led by Spelling and Garth. The actresses then teamed up with Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler, writers from The CW’s “90210” reboot.

“Beverly Hills, 90210” was created by Darren Star and executive produced by Aaron Spelling. The drama premiered in 1990 and aired for 10 seasons, following group of friends through high school, college, and adulthood.

It became a pop culture phenomenon and launched the spinoff “Melrose Place” (and later, that aforementioned “90210” reboot). Since the show left the air in 2000, the original actors have gone on to varying levels of success in their careers.

Here’s the official logline of the revival:

“Having gone their separate ways since the original series ended 19 years ago, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian and Tori reunite when one of them suggests it’s time to get a Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot up and running. But getting it going may make for an even more delicious soap than the reboot itself. What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast — whom the whole world watched grow up together — attempts to continue from where they left off?”

  • Jon Lovitz Is Apparently Engaged to Jessica Lowndes, and Everyone Is Confused

UPDATE: The engagement was all an elaborate prank to promote Jessica Lowndes’s new single.

    ORIGINAL POST:

As that wise mystic “90210” spinoff alum Jessica Lowndes declared they want each other. Lowndes even flashed what appeared to be an engagement ring, when not flashing some Easter photos and bed shots with her new man.

He’s 58. She’s 27. So gross? So what? Twitter just got “Jon Lovitz” trending, in its confusion about this random new couple, and suspicion from some parties that it’s some kind of PR stunt.

But Lowndes called out “haters” on Instagram, and Lovitz replied to someone he felt was clearly “jealous” that Lowndes is young enough to be his daughter. You can hear Lovitz’s voice in the background of the Insta video in bed, and in the other video, Lowndes tells fans she has not been “hacked,” she’s just excited to finally share this secret with everyone:

Want to make a Gen Xer feel old? Tell ’em that this weekend’s Lifetime movie “The Unauthorized Beverly Hills 90210 Story,” premiering October 3, is airing one day shy of the 25th anniversary of the debut of “Beverly Hills, 90210.” Yep, all those fun-loving, well-to-do, oh-so-earnest sophomores from West Beverly High would be 41 now, which means the actors who played them are all around 50 and are now or soon will be eligible for AARP membership.

“90210” was a groundbreaking teen primetime soap that ran for 10 seasons on Fox, spawned numerous spinoffs (including “Melrose Place” and the 2008-13 “90210” reboot on The CW), opened up the summertime as a season for new episodic TV, sparked a mini-vogue in sideburns. and launched the careers of several teen idols. Now that their youth-icon years are far behind, however, how have the West Beverly alumni fared? Take a look.

Not all TV moms can be supportive and wisdom-doling gems like June Cleaver, Claire Huxtable, or Tami Taylor. Sometimes you get television parents who are selfish, critical, manipulative, or downright murder-y and evil. These are the moms who offer advice you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy.
