    • Stephen Amell will lead the new ‘Baywatch’ series.
    • It’ll follow the adventures of a grown Hobie Buchannon.
    • Fox has handed the show a 12-episode initial order.

The effort to take classic TV shows and rework them for modern audiences continues with word that the new Fox ‘Baywatch’ series from ‘Burn Notice’ creator Matt Nix has found its star.

Stephen Amell, formerly of ‘Arrow’, is aboard to play Hobie Buchannon, the son of David Hasselhoff’s iconic Mitch Buchannon and the role played for most of the original show’s run by Jeremy Jackson.

This could be what Amell’s post-DC TV career could use, particularly after the solid but little-seen ‘Heels’ jumped out of the wrestling ring after two seasons and ‘Suits LA’ could only manage one poorly-rated run.

Following its 1989 debut and a swift cancellation by NBC after one season, the original series became the most-watched show airing in over 200 countries, and at its peak, reached more than a billion viewers every week. Hasselhoff led the series as lifeguard Mitch Buchannon and helped launch the careers of actors including Pamela Anderson.

In the new series,  the wild child Hobie Buchannon is now a Baywatch Captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch. Hobie’s world is turned upside down when Charlie, the daughter he never knew, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.

Nix seems to think the casting will work:

“From the first conversation, Stephen Amell brought exactly what this new chapter of Baywatch demands: heart, intensity, and that undeniable hero energy. He’s the kind of lead who can sprint into danger, carry the emotional weight, and still make it feel fun. We’re so excited to get started.”

Per Deadline, the show will film on Venice Beach and at the Fox lot in Los Angeles.

Jon Favreau directs ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, which expands on the TV series he created with Dave Filoni (essentially, this is a new season of the show adapted into a big-screen adventure featuring Pedro Pascal’s stoic warrior and his diminutive, pop cultural icon of a sidekick.)

Born October 8, 1941, in Greenville, South Carolina, Jesse Louis Jackson grew up in the segregated South. He attended North Carolina A&T State University and later studied at the Chicago Theological Seminary, where he was ordained a minister.

In the mid-1960s, he became involved in the civil rights movement and worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., serving as a key organizer within the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Jackson was present in Memphis in 1968 during King’s assassination, an event that profoundly shaped his life and mission.

Following King’s death, Jackson founded Operation PUSH (People United to Save Humanity) in 1971, later merging it into the Rainbow PUSH Coalition.

Jackson made history with his presidential campaigns in 1984 and 1988. His 1988 bid, in particular, was groundbreaking: he won several primaries and caucuses, built a diverse “Rainbow Coalition,” and became one of the most successful African American candidates in presidential primary history at the time.

Over the decades, Jackson remained active in public life, advocating for voting rights, criminal justice reform, labor rights, and international human rights.

In 2017, Jackson revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Despite his health challenges, he continued to make public appearances and speak out on issues he believed were central to the nation’s conscience.

Offstage, Jackson was known as a charismatic orator with a preacher’s cadence and a gift for memorable phrases. His call to “keep hope alive” became a defining refrain of his career.

He was also a husband, father, and grandfather who often spoke about faith as the foundation of his activism. Admirers saw him as a relentless advocate for the disenfranchised; critics acknowledged his undeniable impact on American political life.

In a plotline that honestly sounds like it could have come out in the 1990s or mid-2000s, the new movie sees Merchant as a workaholic Brit employed at an upscale New York hotel who needs a wife for appearances.

He strikes a deal with a struggling stand-up comic (Diaz) who is desperate for health insurance.

Their fake marriage starts as a transaction – but ends in a hilariously unexpected romance.

Producers for this one also include Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (via their Point Grey company) and Lee Eisenberg.

When will the new romantic comedy be on screens?

Amazon MGM Studios has yet to announce a date for this one, nor whether it’ll be in theaters or head straight to Prime Video’s streaming territory.

While she once bestrode the cinematic world like a rom-com colossus, famed for skillful scripts, fabulous settings and big-name casts, it has been more than a decade since we’ve had a movie from writer/director Nancy Meyers.

Now, though, Meyers has finally set up a new project and found a studio home for it at Warner Bros.

Kieran Culkin accepts the Oscar® for Actor in a Supporting Role during the live ABC Telecast of the 97th Oscars® at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

The story here is almost more about the behind-the-scenes drama than what may end up on screens.

In 2023, when Meyers first set it up at Netflix, the movie was reportedly titled ‘Paris Paramount.’ It was said to focus on a young writer-director who falls in love with a producer. The pair make several successful films before breaking up, both romantically and professionally. They are forced back together when a new, great project arises, and they find themselves having to deal with high stakes and volatile stars.

Meyers had Michael Fassbender and Scarlett Johansson circling roles alongside Cruz and Wilson, but Netflix balked at a requested $150 million budget.

We don’t know how much of the script has changed and what the new budget is, but it seems Warner Bros. is happy to proceed (ironically, by the time it hits theaters, Netflix may own the studio…)

When will Nancy Meyers’ new movie land on screens?

Warner Bros. has set a December 25, 2027 release date for the film. Happy Meyers-Mass, everyone!

While TV networks had largely abandoned the pilot process, NBC is among those bringing it back on a more limited basis, with one of the biggest around being a new take on private eye drama ‘The Rockford Files’, which starred James Garner in the 1970s.

The original series saw Garner as a witty, world-weary private eye, and from the sounds of it, writer Mike Daniels is keeping largely to the format.

In the modern show, newly paroled after doing time for a crime he didn’t commit, James Rockford (Boreanaz) returns to his life as a private investigator using his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles, with his charmingly gruff exterior masking a strong moral core.

It doesn’t take long for his quest for legitimacy to land him squarely in the crosshairs of both local police and organized crime.

‘Mistresses’ TV writer Nina Raine adapted the script from Mary Gaitskill’s novella, which was hugely acclaimed when it was released in 2019 and praised for offering a nuanced distillation of the #MeToo movement.

The story follows Margot (Chastain) as accusations of misconduct unravel the career of her closest friend, the charming publisher Quin (Pine). Margot must decide whether loyalty, forgiveness or truth will define the end of their long, heady friendship.

When will ‘This is Pleasure’ be on screens?

Even with the star power attached, this one will be a while as it hasn’t yet locked down a distributor. But with the rights up for sale at the European Film Market, which kicks off this month, we’re sure it’ll be snapped up quickly.
