Not since Buster Keaton has any performer been as committed to both comedy and nail-biting stunt work as Jackie Chan. And probably no one has suffered for his art as much as Chan, who’s broken nearly every bone in his body and nearly killed himself countless times. One of the most infamous Chan stunts occurs here, where, after a brawl in a mall, he leaps from a balcony onto a 100-foot pole wrapped in Christmas lights, slides all the way down (shattering countless bulbs along the way), then crashes through a glass ceiling. The result: burnt hands, two injured vertebrae, near-electrocution, and a dislocated pelvis. But hey, he got the shot in one take.
