Part of the satisfaction comes from watching Ford’s “Indiana Jones” think his way out of a problem. He knows that courage isn’t the absence of fear, but the ability to push through it — and that success is dogged persistence despite frequent failure. Ford punished his body doing many of the film’s hair-raising stunts himself (that’s him getting dragged behind the truck), but he suffered so that we can enjoy watching “Raiders” over and over without ever getting tired of it or failing to get caught up in the relentless forward motion of Steven Spielberg’s thrill engine.<
